Yoo Jun-sang, Yeom Hye-ran, Jo Byung-gyu, Kim Se-jeong to headline new drama ‘A Wonderful Rumor,’ attend first script reading

A Wonderful Rumor (working title) has announced its official roll of main cast! Stars Yoo Jun-sang, Yeom Hye-ran, Jo Byung-gyu, and Kim Se-jeong led the first table read for the upcoming OCN fantasy thriller series, which was held on June 30.

A Wonderful Rumor tells the stories of evil souls who return to Earth with the aim of living an immortal life. In order to prevent their dark schemes, “Counters,” who act as protectors of the balance between the human world and the afterlife, are sent off on a mission to capture them. The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name that was released last 2018 by manhwa author JangYi. Season 1 ended in October 2019 while season 2 has been serialized since April.

Yoo Jun-sang signed up to play Jang Cheol-jung, a character who boasts remarkable physical skills that go beyond human limits. Yoo gained immense popularity for his performance in the 2012 drama My Husband Got a Family. He then went on to star in SBS’s legal thriller Distorted (2017) and KBS2’s family drama Liver or Die (2019). He is now gearing up for the premiere of his new project, JTBC’s upcoming mystery series Graceful Friends.

Also part of the major cast members is Yeom Hye-ran, who will take on the role of Chef Choo Mae-ok. Yeom began her television acting career in 2016. She has since played notable supporting roles in Dear My Friends (2016), Life (2018), When the Camellia Blooms (2019), Chocolate (2019–2020), and Mystic Pop-up Bar (2020).

Meanwhile, Jo Byung-gyu will suit up as the male protagonist So Moon, the only survivor of a car accident that claimed his loved ones. He went through several medical surgeries afterwards, but his leg failed to fully recover. He grew under the care of his grandparents and wants nothing more than to live a normal life as a student. However, his permanent limp, as well as the quiet glances, excessive kindness, and ceaseless attention from the people around, constantly remind him of all the pains from his past.

Jo Byung-gyu has left a lasting positive impression for his performances in the hit series SKY Castle (2018–2019), Arthdal Chronicles (2019), and Stove League (2019–2020). In the current drama, he is playing his first-ever lead role since his debut in Who Are You: School 2015.

Taking on the female lead character, Do Ha-na, is singer-actress Kim Se-jeong. Ha-na is a fierce girl who is able to track the location of evil spirits with the help of her extraordinary sense of hearing. Counters read only the near past, but Ha-na has the ability to read the entire life of a person within a short time.

Kim debuted as Gugudan’s Sejeong and has since given voice to a number of OSTs in popular dramas such as “If Only” (The Legend of the Blue Sea, 2016–2017), “Lover” (Mr. Sunshine, 2018), and “All of My Days” (Crash Landing on You, 2019–2020). She landed her first lead role for a television series in KBS2’s School 2017. Her most recent drama is I Wanna Hear Your Song (2019) under the same network.
