An source from MBC has revealed that Yoo In-na, Lim Ju-hwan, and Shinhwa member Eric Mun will be working together as the main cast of the upcoming suspense rom-com series The Spy Who Loved Me (literal title).
The Spy Who Loved Me follows the life of a woman who unknowingly gets caught up in the dangerous world of espionage for having been linked with two undercover agents.
Yoo In-na will take on the character Kang Ah-reum, a divorcee who works as a wedding dress designer. She finds love again and decides to get married for the second time without the slightest idea that the two men in her life are both keeping their true identities from her. Yoo started gaining attention for her supporting role in the popular 2010 drama Secret Garden. She went on to appear in various projects, such as the series Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016–2017) that skyrocketed the actress’ international stardom for her lovable portrayal as Gong Yoo’s reincarnated royal sister. Her charming on-screen chemistry with actor Lee Dong-wook in the drama resulted in their second pair-up as leads in tvN’s romantic comedy Touch Your Heart (2019).
Meanwhile, actor Lim Ju-hwan will suit up as Derek Hyun, Kang Ah-reum’s current husband who works as a diplomatic official. He acts gentle and warm on the outside to mask his true personality as a cold-blooded corporate spy. He sincerely loves his wife and treats her dearly, but he is willing to go through great lengths for his job, even if that includes lying to Ah-reum about who he really is. Lim recently starred in MBC’s mystery series The Game: Towards Zero (2020) where he gained positive attention for his skilled portrayal.
Performing alongside Yoo and Lim is K-pop idol and actor Eric Mun whose latest appearance was in Channel A’s Eccentric! Chef Moon (2020). He signed up for the role of Jun Ji-hoon, a secret agent for Interpol who has been disguising himself as a travel writer. He supports himself financially through his classified profession, which is why he never revealed it to his then-wife Kang Ah-reum even after they filed for a divorce and went their separate ways.
Now, uncontrollable circumstances bring Ji-hoon to Ah-reum and Derek’s picture-perfect life as a string of humorous and thrilling events begin to unfold before them.
The Spy Who Loved Me is Lee Ji-min’s first script work for a television drama, but he has previously served as the screenwriter for critically acclaimed movies such as The Age of Shadows (2016) and The Man Standing Next (2020). It will be helmed by director Lee Jae-jin of The Banker (2019) and is scheduled to air every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. KST starting this October.
