Just like Identical Affairs actors Ji Jin-hee and Kim Hyun-joo, Marriage Not Dating co-stars Yeon Woo-jin and Han Sun-hwa are also set to reunite as the younger versions of the protagonists in JTBC’s remake of the British series Undercover.
Undercover tells the story of Han Jung-hyun (Ji Jin-hee, Designated Survivor: 60 Days), a former undercover agent who has been hiding behind a fake identity to live a new life with his wife Choi Yeon-soo (Kim Hyun-joo, WATCHER), a human rights lawyer. However, when Yeon-soo gets nominated as chief of the Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit, Jung-hyun’s history as an intelligence operative resurfaces, and they get tangled up in a series of predicaments. The two then embark on an intense battle against massive, corrupt forces in an attempt to defend both love and justice.
Yeon Woo-jin will play the young Han Jung-hyun, a secret agent working for the National Intelligence Service (NIS). He got appointed as secretary of the Ministry of Police during his years at the National Police University because of his wit and extraordinary skills. During a top-secret mission, he falls in love with Choi Yeon-soo and decides to leave the world of espionage to pursue her.
Yeon is a model-turned-actor who started gaining positive attention for his performance in the drama Arang and the Magistrate (2012). He then expanded his acting repertoire by playing lead roles in Queen for Seven Days (2017), Judge vs. Judge (2017–2018), Priest (2018–2019), and I Wanna Hear Your Song (2019).
Signing up opposite Yeon is singer-actress Han Sun-hwa who will take on the role of Choi Yeon-soo’s younger version. While pursuing a career in law, she falls in love with Han Jung-hyun. Unaware if his true identity, she later becomes his other half.
Han is now receiving international regard for her role as Ji Chang-wook’s rich and elegant girlfriend in SBS’s webtoon-based, romantic-comedy series Backstreet Rookie (ongoing). She appeared alongside Yeon six years ago in the rom-com drama Marriage Not Dating (2014), which was also helmed by the current drama’s director, Song Hyun-wook (Graceful Friends).
Undercover‘s mysterious and thrilling tale is penned by a trio of talented screenwriters: Baek Cheol-hyun, Song Ja-hoon, and Jung Hye-eun. The series is set to premiere in the first half of 2021.
