Mother of Mine is only just getting started, but it looks like it is already winning big in ratings.
Starring Kim So-yeon, Hong Jong-hyun, Yoo Sun, Ki Tae-young, Kim Ha-kyung, and Kim Hae-sook, the weekend drama impressed viewers with its relatable family story. The new KBS2 show how premiered on March 23 in replacement of My Only One, which concluded last week. Focusing on the relationship between a single mother and her three daughters, it tackles social and family issues that make women avoid marriage altogether.
According to Nielsen Korea, Mother of Mine achieved nationwide ratings of 22.6 and 26.6 for its first and second episode, respectively. On Sunday, these figures rose to 24.0 and 28.2 percent for the next two episodes.
Viewership ratings of evening weekend dramas from KBS2, MBC, and SBS are relatively higher than that of their weekday counterparts. My Only One, which stars Choi Soo-jong and Uee, started off its broadcast last year with similarly impressive double-digit viewership and went on to obtain a massive nationwide audience share of 49.4 %.
KBS2 is poised to continue to dominate the ratings race during the said time slot, starting from 8 pm KST, with the broadcast of Mother of Mine in the next six months. In the past, the said time slot accommodated dramas with mostly family-centered stories such as My Golden Life and My Father Is Strange.
