Confirmations are in for Uhm Tae-goo and Esom to star in Save Me 2, the sequel to the OCN psychological thriller about a family that moves into the countryside in the hope of starting a new life, only to fall victim to a religious cult’s horrifying secrets. The original season is based on a webtoon titled Out of the World by Jo Geum-san.
The sequel will also have a dangerous religious group playing the antagonists who will challenge the character of Uhm Tae-goo (More Than A Maid). The actor will take on the role of Kim Min-cheol, a judo player who unfairly ends up in jail while fighting injustice. After his release from prison, he goes back home and fights another evil, this time in the form of a false belief that is wreaking havoc on his hometown, Wonchuri. Veteran actor Chun Ho-jin (My Strange Hero) will play Choi Kyung-suk, the mysterious leader behind a religious community whose members start following him when he takes the lead in the issue of compensation payments for the town’s residents. Behind his kind personality and trustworthy smile, however, is an atrocious plan that brings nothing but harm to the people.
Meanwhile, Esom (The Third Charm) will play the younger sister of Kim Min-cheol, Kim Young-son, who has lived a difficult life dealing with a violent father. She aims to graduate as a nurse so she can leave her hometown and live elsewhere peacefully, albeit having to take several semesters off to work and earn money she can use for her daily needs. Her life becomes more complicated when his brother confronts the cult.
Kim Young-min (My Ajusshi) has also been cast in the series as Sung Cheol-woo, a clergyman who dreams of changing Wonchuri. He receives an offer from Choi Kyung-suk and teams up with him to convey faith to the people. His character seems to have a sincere intention of helping the community through religious means but his real motive disappears as he gains the trust of more and more people.
Save Me 2 will be directed by Lee Kwon (Shut Up Flower Boy Band) and penned by newbie writer Seo Joo-yeon. It is set to be broadcast in May.
