Reports announced that tvN’s recently wrapped-up series The Cursed will get a movie remake, titled The Cursed: Again, which will feature the drama’s lead stars Uhm Ji-won and Jung Ji-so as well as new cast members Oh Yoon-ah and Lee Seol.
The Cursed: Again will unravel a plotline that picks up from the concluding events in the drama. The original work follows the story of a teenage girl, who possesses the power of being able to curse people to their deaths by using their names, photos, and other belongings. She will cross paths with a just and enthusiastic societal-issues journalist, and together, they will fight against the supernatural evil lurking behind Korea’s massive IT conglomerate.
Uhm Ji-won will transform into the current affairs journalist Im Jin-hee, who is assigned to cover a violent case involving Forest, the biggest IT company in the country. The chairman of the said company is a firm believer in Shamanism. During Jin-hee’s investigation, she finds out about the spiritual consulting agency that is linked with Forest. While uncovering the secret behind the suspicious affiliation of the two enterprises, she gets to meet Baek So-jin, the character to be played by Jung Ji-so. So-jin is a young lady who is taken over by a spirit and has a special yet dangerous ability.
Uhm is best known for her impeccable acting in the films Hope (2013), The Phone (2015), Missing (2016), and Master (2016). She performed again after a three-year break in the comedy movie The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale (2019). Meanwhile, rookie star Jung Ji-so was involved as a supporting cast member in Daughter (2014) and The Tiger (2015) before she landed her role in the Oscar-winning black comedy film, Parasite (2019).
Joining Uhm and Jung in the film are actresses Oh Yoon-ah and Lee Seol. Oh’s label, Polaris Entertainment, affirmed the actress’ appearance on July 16. Following her big-screen debut in Love in Magic (2005), Oh also starred in three other movies, Old Miss Diary (2006), Athena: The Movie (2011), and Scent of Ghost (2019).
Similarly, Link Management confirmed Lee Seol’s participation in the project. The rising actress made her debut in Herstory (2018), a legal film based on the true-to-life story of Busan-based women in the 1990s. She went on to gain more skills and experience by taking on roles in I Have a Date with Spring (2018) and My Punch-Drunk Boxer (2019). Lee Seol also played a bit part in The Divine Fury (2019) and has been cast in the upcoming Kang Ha-neul starrer movie, Rain and Your Story (2021).
The film remake will be spearheaded by the same director-writer duo from the drama: Kim Yong-wan of the film Champion (2018) and Yeon Sang-ho, the critically recognized screenwriter slash director of the zombie-themed blockbuster hits Train to Busan (2016) as well as its sequel, Peninsula (now showing in South Korea).
The Cursed: Again targets to crank up its production in September.
