‘The World of the Married’ surpasses highest ratings of ‘Reply 1988,’ ‘Goblin,’ ‘Mr. Sunshine’

The World of the Married has again broken its own record in TV ratings on Saturday night. This achievement comes as no surprise because the drama remarkably hit double-digit ratings during its premiere week. However, it might shock some fans when they find out that its latest rating has beaten the highest records achieved by Reply 1988, Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, Itaewon Class, and many other highest-rated cable dramas.

According to Nielsen Korea, The World of the Married obtained a nationwide rating of 18.816% in its sixth episode, becoming the third highest-rated Korean drama in cable TV in terms of peak nationwide single-episode ratings. It is preceded by Sky Castle and Crash Landing on You, which recorded 23.779% and 21.683%, respectively.

The list below ranks the 10 highest-rated cable dramas of all time based on peak or highest nationwide single-episode ratings (as of April 12, 2020):

  1. SKY Castle (JTBC) – 23.779%
  2. Crash Landing On You (tvN) – 21.683%
  3. The World of the Married (JTBC) – 18.816%
  4. Reply 1988 (tvN) – 18.803%
  5. Goblin (tvN) – 18.680%
  6. Mr. Sunshine (tvN) – 18.129%
  7. Itaewon Class (JTBC) – 16.548%
  8. 100 Days My Prince (tvN) – 14.412%
  9. Signal (tvN) – 12.544%
  10. The Lady In Dignity (JTBC) – 12.065%

Similarly, The World of the Married is now the third highest-rated Korean drama in cable TV in terms of average nationwide TV ratings. Its first six episodes boast an impressive average of 12.600%, breaking the records of SKY Castle, Reply 1988, and Crash Landing on You. The top 10 is listed below:

  1. Mr. Sunshine (tvN) – 13.0%
  2. Goblin (tvN) – 12.9%
  3. The World of the Married (JTBC) – 12.6%
  4. SKY Castle (JTBC) – 12.5%
  5. Reply 1988 (tvN) – 12.4%
  6. Crash Landing on You (tvN) – 12.2%
  7. Itaewon Class (JTBC) – 11.8%
  8. 100 Days My Prince (tvN) – 9.0%
  9. Hotel del Luna (tvN) – 8.9%
  10. Signal (tvN) – 8.8%

With 10 more episodes to go before its finale, The World of the Married is poised to become the third Korean cable drama to hit the 20 percent mark in nationwide viewership, following SKY Castle and Crash Landing on You.

Meanwhile, the series already exceeded the said mark in the metropolitan area as it recorded a 21.390 percent rating among cable TV equipped households located in Seoul.

The World of the Married premiered on March 27 with a bang as its 6.3 percent rating beat the first episode ratings of all other JTBC dramas. It has since enjoyed an increase in viewership every new episode, with the latest one recording a 4.1 percentage points increase from 14.676% (episode 5).

The popularity of the series is also reflected in the latest ranking of the most talked-about Korean dramas, where it ranked no. 1.

Based on the UK TV series Doctor Foster, The World of the Married tells the story of a doctor (Kim Hee-ae) who believes she has a perfect life until she finds out that her husband (Park Hae-joon) is cheating on her. It airs every Friday and Saturday on JTBC at 10:50 p.m. KST.

    I know this is copied of Doctor Foster but I hope it doesnot totally copy the ending too. So, far I love it.

      Hi Kate, The World of the Married has yet to secure a streaming channel in the US, so right now you can only watch it legally via Viu.
