Update: The World of the Married recorded on Saturday a nationwide rating of 9.979 or 10.0 percent for its second episode. Many commenters online gave the series positive reviews so far, describing its first episodes as “so good” and “intense.” Its successful start makes it the first-ever JTBC drama to hit the 10% mark during its premiere week.
The World of the Married surpassed the first episode rating of Itaewon Class and all other JTBC dramas in the past. This after its first episode on Friday achieved a nationwide Nielsen TV rating of 6.260%, which translates to an estimated 1.2 million viewers throughout South Korea.
Also known as Couple’s World, the new series took the record of being the highest-rated drama premiere on JTBC from Diary of a Prosecutor, which hit the headlines in December 2019 for obtaining 5.042 percent on its first broadcast. The third highest-rated premiere is Itaewon Class (4.983%), followed by Chief of Staff (4.375%) and Life (4.334%).

Meanwhile, The World of the Married ranks second overall in the list of the highest-rated cable drama premieres so far in 2020. It lost only to tvN’s Hospital Playlist, which posted a 6.325% rating. Here is the overall top 5 in the first quarter of the year:

Based on the 2015 UK television series Doctor Foster, The World of the Married centers on a successful family medicine doctor, played by Kim Hee-ae (Second To Last Love), who leads a seemingly successful life until her husband starts to behave strangely. She suspects that his husband, played by Park Hae-joon (Arthdal Chronicles), is betraying her and their relationship starts to fall apart after her suspicions grow into anger.
Directed by PD Mo Wan-il of the Baeksang award-winning series Misty, The World of the Married airs on JTBC every Friday and Saturday at 10:50 pm KST. It is one of the 13 new Korean dramas in March 2020.
