The hit superhero series The Uncanny Counter marked a special spot in Orion Cinema Network (OCN)’s history as it recorded 10.6 percent viewership rating for its 12th episode. This rating translates to an estimated 3.2 million viewers, according to Nielsen Korea.
With its current logged record, the webtoon-based Saturday-Sunday drama has become not only the cable network’s highest-rated drama in 25 years since its launch but also its first television drama to hit double digits. The previous record holder of high ratings is the finale episode (7.086 percent) of the thriller series Voice 2.
The Uncanny Counter refers to So Mun (Jo Byung-gyu, Hot Stove League), a high schooler who finds himself suiting up as an unlikely demon hunter called a Counter. As he treks the dangerous new world, he works with fellow Counters Ga Mo-tak (Yoo Jun-sang, Graceful Friends), Do Ha-na (Kim Se-jeong, I Wanna Hear Your Song), and Choo Mae-ok (Yeom Hye-ran, Mystic Pop-up Bar) in putting the evil spirits who seek immortal life on Earth back where they belong. Earlier, news reports have revealed that the production team behind the series is working on the formation of a second installment.
Meanwhile, tvN’s popular Saturday-Sunday historical-comedy drama Mr. Queen maintains its impressive record streak, scoring 12.8 percent for its ninth episode. To date, it remains the no. 1 drama in its time slot across all channels.
