Ahead of its upcoming premiere on November 28, The Uncanny Counter has been busy dropping posters and stills to feed the viewers’ curiosity on what’s in store for them.
The new OCN drama is a fantasy-comedy thriller that follows a group of demon hunters called “Counters” who chase down evil spirits looking for immortality. To disguise themselves and live among humans, they work undercover in a noodle shop. Based on the webtoon “Amazing Rumor” written by Jang Yi, the drama stars Jo Byung-gyu (Stove League) as So Moon, the central figure of the story and also the youngest among the Counters; Gugudan’s Kim Se-jeong (I Wanna Hear Your Song) as Do Ha-na, who can sense the location of spirits from a hundred kilometers away; Yoo Jun-sang (Graceful Friends) as Ga Mo-tak, So Moon’s justice-driven mentor; Yeom Hye-ran (Mystic Pop-up Bar) as Choo Mae-ok, the chef of the restaurant and the anchor of the Counters; and Ahn Suk-hwan (My Wonderful Life) as Choi Jang-moo, the oldest Counter, a living legend among the demon hunters, and the one in charge of all expenses of the Counters.
Each of the Counters has a special ability of their own to help them defeat evil spirits. For instance, aside from being a locator, Do Ha-na can also see the memories of those she touches. So Moon and Ga Mo-tak, on the other hand, have incredible physical strength, and Choo Mae-ok has healing abilities. In the released posters, these four protagonists show their roles as a powerful team who are about to leave the noodle shop to defeat evil spirits. As if they just popped out of the webtoon themselves, the four look straight toward the camera as they pose in their combat stance, increasing their intense presence as a group of Counters.
In particular, all four are radiating charisma with their intense looks, as if saying a promise to annihilate all demons. In the second poster, the tension tones down with Jo Byung-gyu’s smile, but the rest still have cold and intense expressions. In addition, on the upper portion of the poster, the characters are dressed as employees, wearing aprons with the noodle shop as their backdrop. However, the lower part of the image shows them dressed as demon hunters floating in the sky, indicating the group’s double life as Counters.
The Uncanny Counter (previously called Amazing Rumor or Wonderful Rumors) is set to air its first episode on the last week of November at 10:30 p.m. KST, taking over the time slot currently occupied by Search. The production is helmed by Yoo Seon-dong of Vampire Prosecutor 2 (2012) and penned by Yeo Ji-na.
