Popular actor Kim Nam-gil is being roped in to headline the upcoming crime slash thriller drama Those Who Read Hearts of Evil (working title).
Kim’s agency Gilstory ENT said, “It is correct that Kim Nam-gil received an offer to star in the new drama Those Who Read Hearts of Evil, but nothing has been decided yet. He has been receiving many casting offers after he decided to appear in Island, and Those Who Read Hearts of Evil is among the works that he is considering.” The statement was intended to clarify earlier news about Kim’s confirmed participation in the project.
Based on a book of the same name by Kwon Il-yong and Go Na-moo, Those Who Read Hearts of Evil will tell the story of South Korea’s first criminal profiler Kwon Il-yong. It follows the rise of criminal profilers in the country during a time when “profiling” and “psychopath” were still unfamiliar terms.
Famed for his undeniable onscreen charisma and flawless acting, Kim Nam-gil has been sweeping up viewers with his television performances throughout the years. He has starred in various unforgettable dramas such as The Great Queen Seondeok (2009), Don’t Look Back: The Legend of Orpheus (2013), and Live Up to Your Name (2017). If he accepts the current offer, he will be transforming into a criminal profiler and return to the small screen two years since winning four Best Actor distinctions and one Daesang (Grand Prize) for his role in The Fiery Priest (2019).
Those Who Read Hearts of Evil will be penned by screenwriter Seol Yi-na and targets to air in the second half of 2021.
