Actor Sung Hoon is considering appearing in the Korean remake of the American romantic-comedy drama Jane the Virgin.
On July 15, Sung Hoon’s agency Stallion Entertainment confirmed that the actor has received a proposal to star in Jane the Virgin and is considering it. Previously, Kim Jae-joong was being courted to play the male lead role played by Rafael Solano in the American version. Meanwhile, Im Soo-hyang is being courted to play Jane, the role played by Gina Rodriguez.
Jane the Virgin revolves around the titular character of Jane, a devout Latina who has resolved to remain a virgin until marriage. She gets pregnant when her gynecologist accidentally performs artificial insemination on her. Things get complicated when she realizes that the biological father of her child is her employer and former childhood crush. The show aired on The CW for five seasons. It is based on Juana la Virgen, a Venezuelan telenovela created by Perla Farias.
If both Sung Hoon and Im Soo-hyang say yes to the show, they will be reuniting after five years since their 2016 drama Five Enough. They also starred together in the 2011 series New Tales of Gisaeng. While Im Soo-hyang is best known for starring in ID: Gangnam Beauty (2018), Graceful Family (2019), and When I Was the Most Beautiful (2020), Sung Hoon is currently receiving much love as the lawyer Pan Sa-hyun in the second season of Love (ft. Marriage & Divorce). He has previously appeared in Oh My Venus (2015–2016), My Secret Romance (2017), and Level Up (2019).
Jane the Virgin‘s Korean remake will be produced by Group 8, and the script will be penned by Jang Ah-mi. The show’s broadcast network and schedule are still under discussion.
