‘Stranger 2’ drops suspenseful promos, to stream on Netflix

Stranger 2 has upped the tension by dropping two new promotional videos ahead of its premiere on August 15.

A sequel to the highly successful 2017 show by the same name, Stranger 2, also known as Secret Forest 2, stars Cho Seung-woo (Life) and Bae Doo-na (Kingdom 2) in lead roles. The two actors, along with Lee Joon-hyuk (365: Repeat the Year), Yoon Se-ah (Melting Me Softly), and others, will be reprising their roles from the last season. Jeon Hye-jin (Search: WWW) and Choi Moo-sung (Arthdal Chronicles) make up the the new faces joining this time.

While the previous season delved into cases of corruption among Seoul’s prosecutors, this one will focus on a confrontation between the prosecution and the police over investigative rights. Lee Soo-yeon (Life) has penned the script, while Park Hyun-suk (Just Dance) is donning the director’s hat.

The 31-second promo video released on August 6 gives a sneak peek into the tense confrontation between the police and the prosecutor sides. After becoming friends in the last season, Prosecutor Hwang Shi-mok (Cho Seung-woo) and Detective Han Yeo-jin (Bae Doo-na) reunite on opposite sides after two years. Shi-mok is joined by Woo Tae-ha (Choi Moo-sung), senior prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while Yeo-jin is joined by Choi Bit (Jeon Hye-jin), the first female Director of Intelligence. This is the “Forest of Secrets” Shi-mok and Yeo-jin will step into this time, although there is no telling if they will eventually be on the same team.

On August 9, another 30-second preview was dropped for the show. It shows the ever vigilant and righteous Prosecutor Hwang Shi-mok coming across a mysterious accident on a foggy night, which piques his curiosity. Detective Han Yeo-jin, meanwhile, who is now working on the joint council of the police and prosecutors to promote reforms, appears disillusioned with her work. The preview is hinting that the beloved duo of Shi-mok and Yeo-jin might team up for another case, although it might take a couple of episodes to get there.

In good news for international fans of the show, Netflix announced on August 10 that it will stream Stranger 2 worldwide starting August 15. For Asia, Latin America, and other English-speaking countries, new episodes will be available at 10:30 p.m. KST, just an hour and 30 minutes after the show finishes airing in Korea. Other regions of the world will be able to watch the series from October 11.

Stranger 2 will air in tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9 p.m. KST time slot, taking over Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji’s It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.
