Fresh from wrapping up their popular business-themed drama Start-Up (2020), rising stars Kang Han-na and Kim Do-wan have already signed up to work together again in tvN’s upcoming webtoon-based romantic-fantasy series Frightening Cohabitation and are reportedly pairing up this time!
Frightening Cohabitation centers on college student Lee Dam (Lee Hye-ri, Miss Lee), who accidentally swallows the magical orb of Shin Woo-yeo (Jang Ki-yong, Born Again), a human-guised male gumiho or nine-tailed fox. Crazy yet comical events inevitably arise as the two of them are forced to live together until they figure out a way to get the orb out of Lee Dam’s body.
Kang Han-na is set to transform into Yang Hye-sun, a gumiho who has now taken on a human form. Underneath her perfectly lady-like appearance is a messy and teethy fox. Hye-sun is one of Shin Woo-yeo’s gumiho friends. Prior to her unforgettable appearance in Start-Up this year, Kang impressed a lot of viewers with her portrayals in the dramas Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), Familiar Wife (2018), and Designated Survivor: 60 Days (2019). In her next work, she is expected to render another colorful performance as she breathes life into a familiar mythical character.
Meanwhile, She Knows Everything actor Kim Do-wan has been pulled in to play Lee Dam’s close friend Do Jae-jin, a pure-hearted man who gives everything he has got for the woman he loves. He has a warmness in him that radiates through his face and personality. Like his former co-star Kang Ha-na, Kim has gained increased attention for his role in Start-Up, and both their characters did not share any romantic connection with other characters in the drama. In the upcoming series, however, everyone’s expectations are heating up as the character Do Jae-jin is said to fall in love with Yang Hye-sun.
In addition, rookie actor Bae In-hyuk, who is best known for his appearances in the web drama XX (2020) and television series The Spies Who Loved Me (2020), is joining the cast as Gye Seon-woo, Lee Dam’s handsome college senior who finds himself caught up in her charms.
On this exciting ensemble of young stars, the production team behind Frightening Cohabitation shared, “Following the confirmed participation of Jang Ki-yong and Lee Hye-ri, a more solid lineup has been completed by casting Kang Han-na, Kim Do-wan, and Bae In-hyuk. Please look forward to the performances of the three new actors.”
Frightening Cohabitation will be helmed by Nam Sung-woo of Kkondae Intern (2020) and will be co-penned by screenwriters Baek Sun-woo and Choi Bo-rim of A Poem a Day (2018). Under the joint production of Studio Dragon and JTBC Studios, the series is slated to air domestically on tvN and be released globally via iQIYI (website and mobile app) as the platform’s first exclusive Korean original offering in 2021.
