Upcoming series Like a Butterfly has announced its main cast featuring rising star Song Kang and veteran actors Park In-hwan and Na Moon-hee.
Based on the heart-warming webtoon “Navillera,” Like a Butterfly will tell the story of people from different walks of life who decide to pursue their dreams with the belief that even though life only comes around once, it is never too late to live a happy one. It revolves around the unusual friendship built between a young man and an elderly.
Song Kang signed up for the role of Lee Chae-rok, a 23-year-old admirable ballet dancer with great talent who often blames himself for his frequent injuries. He meets Shim Deok-chul, a 70-year-old rookie ballet dancer who gives him support and teaches him many life lessons.
After making his television debut in the romantic-comedy series The Liar and His Lover (2017), Song Kang furthered his experience through appearing in MBC’s family drama Man in the Kitchen (2017–2018) and tvN’s fantasy melodrama When the Devil Calls Your Name (2019). However, it was not until he starred in Netflix’s romantic fantasy series Love Alarm (2019) with Kim So-hyun and Jung Ga-ram that he attained international popularity. The actor is currently gearing up to star in the second season of Love Alarm as well as the webtoon-based horror drama Sweet Home (2020) alongside Lee Jin-wook and Lee Si-young.
Meanwhile, seasoned actor Park In-hwan will take on the character Shim Deok-chul, a gentle grandfather who goes against all odds to reach his dream of becoming a ballet dancer. His perseverance and sincerity provide great inspiration to Chae-rok.
Park has been in the industry since 1965 and has graced the small screen through his performances in various popular series including Save the Last Dance for Me (2004), Mad Dog (2017), and Liver or Die (2019).
Also among the main cast is veteran actress Na Moon-hee. She started out in the entertainment industry as a voice actor in 1961. In 1976, her drama career began in MBC’s Girls’ High School Days. In a span of over five decades, her talent has gotten more and more remarkable in each project that she participates in. Her most recent work is KBS2’s family drama My Only One (2018–2019). Details on her character in the current series are yet to be revealed.
The 57-episode (including epilogue) webcomic “Navillera” (“나빌레라”) was written by manhwa author Hun and illustrator Jimin. It is available only in Korean and was serialized in Daum Webtoon from July 2016 to October 2017. It has since gained a wide reader base and was even recommended by BTS vocalist V.
Like a Butterfly will be helmed by director Han Dong-hwa of tvN’s Miss Lee (2019) and will be penned by screenwriter Lee Eun-ma. The shooting is scheduled to begin in August.
