Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Jeon Do-yeon, more complete dream cast of new disaster film ‘Emergency Declaration’

Upcoming blockbuster movie Emergency Declaration has released its main cast, which features A-list artists Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, and Jeon Do-yeon, joined by critically renowned actors Kim Nam-gil, Im Si-wan, Kim So-jin, and Park Hae-joon.

Emergency Declaration is an aviation action thriller about an in-air flight that is caught up in an extreme natural disaster. The pilot loses control of the aircraft and decides to declare an emergency landing.

The film has been getting attention even while in the production phase as its story line will be the first of its kind to be released in South Korea. It is Director Han Jae-rim’s first highly-anticipated work since the political crime motion picture The King in 2017. In addition, the viewers are looking forward to witness an exceptional level of performance from the movie’s mix of star-studded cast.

Veteran actor Song Kang-ho plays the role of a detective who chases after the in-air flight and its passengers in the midst of an unprecedented natural disaster. Song is a prominent figure in the Korean entertainment industry and has earned numerous recognitions including “Grand Prize” and “Best Actor” from different award-giving bodies for his megahit films. Song is currently nominated for “Best Actor” in the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards and 56th Grand Bell Awards for his performance in the Oscar-acclaimed black-comedy thriller movie Parasite (2019).

Korean and Hollywood actor Lee Byung-hun will take on the role of a father who has a severe fear of heights but boards the flight with his daughter. Lee has also shelved quite a number of trophies to his name since the beginning of his career. He has acted alongside many popular Hollywood actors such as Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, and Denzel Washington. He went on to become the first Korean actor to present an award at the Oscars. Lee is also a strong contender for “Best Actor” in the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for his portrayal in the political film The Man Standing Next (2020).

Meanwhile, actress Jeon Do-yeon has been cast as an airline director. Jeon had won “Best Actress” in the 60th Cannes Film Festival for her performance in the movie Secret Sunshine (2007). She is also currently vying for “Best Actress” in the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for her work in the tragic film Birthday (2019).

The characters of actors Kim Nam-gil and Im Si-wan will be boarding the flight as a pilot and as a young solo passenger, respectively. Kim Nam-gil also has a number of awards up his sleeve. He recently starred in the 2020 horror film The Closet. Though comparatively new in the industry, Im Si-wan is now considered an up-and-coming actor and has received various recognitions and nominations for his projects. He last appeared in the movie The Merciless (2017) and is gearing up for the premiere of his new film Boston 1947 later this year.

At present, details about Kim So-jin and Park Hae-joon’s characters have not yet been released. Their portrayals are highly-anticipated as Kim So-jin is a fairly well-acknowledged performer, proven by the nomination she has received for “Best Actress” in the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards for displaying remarkable acting skills in the movie Another Child (2019). Park Hae-joon has also being receiving praise for showing outstanding performance in the current small-screen hit The World of the Married. Park last appeared in the 2019 movie Cheer Up, Mr. Lee.

Emergency Declaration is set to begin filming this May.
