Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri’s sci-fi film ‘Space Sweepers’ announces September premiere, drops new teaser

Upcoming sci-fi film Space Sweepers, starring Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Seon-kyu, and Yoo Hae-jin, celebrates its premiere announcement with a freshly dropped teaser trailer!

Set in the year 2092, Space Sweepers follows the crew of a junk collector spaceship called The Victory. Captain Jang Sun-jang (Kim Tae-ri, Little Forest) leads a team of misfits comprised of pilot Tae-ho (Song Joong-ki, The Battleship Island), engineer Tiger Park (Jin Seon-kyu, Man of Men), and the weaponry robot Eobdong (Yoo Hae-jin, The Battle: Roar to Victory). They travel through space to scavenge things that could be worth some money and get on fierce competitions with spacecrafts from other countries.

The new teaser clip spans for 1 minute and 26 seconds and opens with The Victory zooming across the vast outer system. Captain Jang’s voice takes over the background, commanding, “Out of my way, you useless pieces of junk. That’s mine.” Their competitor then yells and curses at them over the radio, “You’re seriously going to take everything?!” Tae-ho grins proudly as their vehicle is faster than any other interstellar sweeper there is.

Despite their unparalleled speed, the crew remains in dire need of money to pay off their debt. Their situation turns even worse when their ship collides with another and leaves them at a huge profit loss. Things would have been a lot less unfortunate if only they could depend on their camaraderie and work things out, but they are terrible in that department. As the crew’s destructive brawls take over the spotlight, Tiger Park voices out, “We’re screwed.”

Just before their hope runs out, Tae-ho, Tiger Park, and Eobdong decide to go about their business and soon discover a humanoid robot while looting from the cargo of a deserted ship. A few moments after bringing it in, however, they come to learn that what looks like a harmless child machine is actually a weapon of mass destruction called Dorothy.

Seeing an opportunity amid the dangerous condition they are in, Tae-ho suggestively comments, “The kid is worth a fortune.” Captain Jang is not inclined to the idea, however, and questions his intentions, “You’re going to resell the bomb? No. That’s not right.” The former gets confused and asks, “What are you talking about?” as what he proposed is the only obvious shot they have to acquire loads of money.

As it appears so, the other teams agree with Tae-ho and gear up to initiate a space war upon hearing that The Victory has Dorothy. The promo video closes with action-packed scenes, collisions, gun fires, and a last-second squabble between Tiger Park and Eobdong.

Space Sweepers is helmed by director slash screenwriter Jo Sung-hee of A Werewolf Boy (2012) and Phantom Detective (2016). It is set to hit the theaters in South Korea on September 23.
