tvN’s highly anticipated mafia-themed series Vincenzo has confirmed the casting of lead stars Song Joong-ki, Jeon Yeo-bin, and Ok Taec-yeon, according to PRJ, a public relations company.
Vincenzo will tell the story of an Italian mafia consigliere who is forced to seek refuge in South Korea due to a conflict within his organization. He unexpectedly crosses paths with a confident and independent lawyer whom he will grow feelings for, as he sets out to achieve social justice with his own hands.
Song Joong-ki will transform into Vincenzo Casano, a man who was adopted at the age of eight and brought to Italy. Now a lawyer, he works as a strategist and advisor to a mafia group, but the organization’s internal dispute compels him to leave the country. He goes back to South Korea and lives as a modern-day Robin Hood under the name Park Joo-hyung. The series will mark Song’s return to the small screen after the first season of Arthdal Chronicles. He was originally scheduled to film this year for the drama’s second installment, but the production team has postponed the filming in light of the current pandemic.
Meanwhile, Jeon Yeo-bin signed up to play the female protagonist Hong Cha-young, a lawyer who is dedicated to winning every case she takes on. This will be the newest addition to the actress’ growing slate of television projects, which includes Save Me (2017), Live (2018), and Be Melodramatic (2019).
Completing the trio is Ok Taec-yeon who will take on the role of Jang Jun-woo, an intelligent and hardworking first-year intern at a law firm. He is polite, genuine, and from a middle-class family. Despite his boyish charms and good looks, Jun-woo is a bit awkward, innocent, and often gets into trouble in his job. Though he is only Cha-young’s junior colleague, Jun-woo wants to man up like James Bond and act as her cool protector. Also known as 2PM’s Taecyeon, the entertainer slash actor previously starred in the series Save Me (2017) and The Game: Towards Zero (2020).
The production behind the drama shared, “Vincenzo is a black comedy, featuring modern-day heroes who seek to punish wickedness through their own villainous ways. [In the drama], the synergy among all individual characters is as important as the uniqueness and dynamic flow of the story line.”
Vincenzo will be helmed by director Kim Hee-won of The Crowned Clown (2019) and penned by screenwriter Park Jae-bum of The Fiery Priest (2019). Planned by Studio Dragon and produced by Logos Film, the drama targets to premiere in the first half of 2021.
