UPDATED April 30:
Choi Min-ho, or Minho of the Korean boy band SHINee, is set to make a special appearance in the upcoming tvN series Yumi’s Cells.
SM Entertainment, the idol-actor’s management company, said on April 28, “Choi Min-ho will play the role of Chae Woo-gi in the TVING original series Yumi’s Cells, a drama that will pleasantly unravel the love [life] and daily life of an ordinary office worker named Yumi [through the perspective] of her cells.”
Choi, who last impressed viewers with his performance in KakaoTV’s Lovestruck in the City (2020–2021), will play Chae Woo-gi, Yumi’s junior at work and the receiving end of Yumi’s unrequited crush. He is described as a caring, warmhearted, and good-looking man. His character is said to have played a major role in the story development of the original Naver webtoon, the source material of the drama. Attention is now focused on how Choi Min-ho will bring the character to life in the small screen.
Yumi’s Cells will feature stars Kim Go-eun (The King: Eternal Monarch), Ahn Bo-hyun (Kairos), Lee Yu-bi (Joseon Exorcist), and Park Ji-hyun (Do You Like Brahms?) in the main roles. It will air on over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform TVING and cable channel tvN during the second half of the year.

Choi Min-ho (Minho) might appear in another drama soon!
The idol-turned-actor’s agency SM Entertainment revealed that Minho has been offered a special appearance in the tvN drama Yumi’s Cells and is positively reviewing it. Since being discharged from mandatory military service in 2020, Choi has appeared in KakaoTV’s Lovestruck in the City (2020–2021).
Yumi’s Cells is based on a webtoon and explores the life of its central character named Yumi. However, Yumi’s life story is told through the point of view of her brain cells who control her every thought, feeling, and action.
Kim Go-eun, best known for starring in mega hits Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016–2017) and The King: Eternal Monarch (2020), has been roped in to play the leading role of Yumi. The character is described as an ordinary office-going woman who struggles with openly expressing her feelings. During the course of the show, she will grow in both her personal and professional lives and learn to find joy in small things.
Itaewon Class’s (2020) breakout star Ahn Bo-hyun is in talks to star opposite Kim as Gu Woong, a man with a cynical exterior who is quite a romantic at heart. Gu Woong will develop romantic feelings for Yumi. Choi Min-ho, on the other hand, is being courted to play Woo Gi—Yumi’s colleague and the focus of her unrequited love.
Yumi’s Cells has been co-written by Song Jae-jung (Memories of the Alhambra), Kim Yoon-joo (Find Me in Your Memory), and Kim Kyung-ran. It will be directed by Lee Sang-yeob of Familiar Wife (2018) and A Piece of Your Mind (2020) fame and air in the second half of 2021.
