Shin Ha-kyun might announce a new project soon!
On July 14, various entertainment industry sources reported that Shin had been offered the lead role in the upcoming drama Beyond the Memory. Soon after, Shin’s agency HODU&U Entertainment confirmed the aforementioned reports, stating that the actor was offered the role and is currently in the process of reviewing it.
Beyond the Memory will revolve around themes of the future and virtual reality. It is said to be a “mid-form drama,” which means that the entire show will be less than an hour long. It will be broadcast on TVING, CJ ENM’s own over-the-top (OTT) platform.
The show will be helmed by director Lee Joon-ik, one of South Korea’s most renowned film directors. He is best known for working on The King and the Clown (2005), Sunny (2008), Hope (2013), The Throne (2015), and Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet (2016). He won the Grand Prize at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for his most recent film, The Book of Fish (2021) starring Sol Kyung-gu and Byun Yo-han.
Shin Ha-kyun, too, won Best Actor (TV) at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance in Beyond Evil. The possibility of a collaboration between two Baeksang Arts awardees has generated high interest in Beyond the Memory. Shin Ha-kyun is best known for appearing in films Joint Security Area (2000), Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002), and Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005), among others. Among dramas, his most famous works are Mr. Baek (2014) and Soul Mechanic (2020). He was last seen alongside Yeo Jin-goo in the JTBC psychological thriller Beyond Evil (2021), which concluded in April this year.
