According to Seolhyun’s management agency FNC Entertainment, she will be making her small screen comeback with the upcoming JTBC sageuk called My Country, joining already confirmed leads Yang Se-jong and Woo Do-hwan.
My Country is a historical action drama which takes place at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty until the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty. As it tackles the transition of the two dynasties, the plot will focus on political events involving leaders who desire to have power and authority.
Seolhyun (also known by her complete name Kim Seol-hyun) of girl group AOA will play the role of Han Hee-jae, a smart and progressive Joseon woman who is dismayed by the corrupt activities in her country. She meets Seo Hwi (to be played by Yang Se-jong), a son of a famous military commander, and Nam Sun-ho (Woo Do-hwan), an aspiring military officer who is looked down upon by other people due to his mother’s lowly status. The three strive to protect their love for the country amid the chaos happenings around them.
My Country will be the first historical drama project of Seolhyun and Woo Do-hwan, who last appeared in Orange Marmalade and Great Seducer, respectively. Yang Se-jong, meanwhile, previously appeared in Thirty But Seventeen and Saimdang, Light’s Diary.
The series is set to begin filming in March and premiere in the second half of 2019.
