Seo Ye-ji may be coming back to the small screen as an heiress!
Following news reports that the actress will play the main character of OCN’s upcoming drama Island, Seo’s agency Gold Medalist shared, “Seo Ye-ji [received a proposal] to appear in Island, and [she] is considering it.”
Island will uncover the secrets hidden in Jeju Island and center on the unsightly beings that have been looking for opportunities to wipe humanity off the world.
Seo has been tapped to play Won Mi-ho, a chaebol heiress who often has an air of sadness about her. While she is the only daughter of the company’s chairman, she has a tendency to be reckless and complacent. One day, she finds herself the subject of a huge controversy, forcing her father to kick her out and send her to Jeju Island as punishment. Oblivious to the mysteries of the place, Mi-ho becomes the fresh target of the monsters that seek to banish humans. The only person who can protect her is a veiled hunter who has been fighting the creatures for a long time.
Seo Ye-ji made her acting debut in 2013 and has since been keeping her schedule filled with both silver-screen and small-screen projects. In 2014, she landed a major role in the historical drama Diary of a Night Watchman, where her laudable performance earned her the nomination for Best New Actress at the 33rd MBC Drama Awards. Years after, she was dubbed the “New Thriller Queen” for her commendable portrayal of a troubled teen who is trying to take down a devious cult leader in OCN’s 2017 thriller series Save Me. The following year, she impressed viewers once again for playing a righteous yet temperamental legal representative in Lawless Lawyer (2018).
It was this year, however, that Seo made an outstanding and lasting mark in the industry, as she showcased her remarkable acting skills and synergy with co-star Kim Soo-hyun in tvN’s It’s Okay To Not Be Okay. At present, she remains best known for bringing to life in the 2020 series the odd yet lovable character of Go Moon-young, a best-selling children’s book author who has anti-social personality disorder. Given her current rise in popularity, her confirmation of whether or not she will choose OCN’s Island as her next project is raising anticipation and expectations from fans and viewers.
Island will reportedly be directed by Bae Jong and written by Jang Yoon-mi. It will be a 10-part drama and is slated to crank up its production in the first half of 2021.
