Park Seo-joon makes history as first Korean actor to receive YouTube Gold Play Button

Itaewon Class‘ lead star Park Seo-joon has officially become the first South Korean actor to receive YouTube’s Gold Play Button.

Formally termed as The Gold Creator Award, the Gold Play Button is only one among a series of gifts called YouTube Creator Awards (or YouTube Play Buttons) that the giant online video-sharing platform gives out to the people behind its most popular channels. Each recognition is based on a channel’s subscriber count and are offered at the sole discretion of YouTube.

As a celebration for surpassing one million subscribers, Park Seo-joon hosted a live stream on his channel on June 1 where he unboxed the gold-plated brass plate. In the 23-minute long video session, the actor especially thanked all his fans for helping him reach the coveted milestone. Park also did not forget to acknowledge the effort of his team and said, “My crew works day and night to polish my videos, I really did not do much.” Then, he generally addressed everyone who has been supporting him in his career, “I believe this is made possible by all the people who have shown unwavering interest in the things that I do throughout my daily life.”

His channel, Record PARK’s, was established on July 25, 2019. Since then, it has uploaded over 20 videos and has already garnered a total of (around) 24.7 million views. The channel’s content includes clips of the actor’s everyday life, project preparations, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, photo shoots, and travel and dining escapades.

Park previously reached 100,000 subscribers in November 2019, which means he achieved the Silver Creator Award in just about four months and the Gold Creator Award in less than a year. He is now on the road towards obtaining these other awards: Diamond Creator Award (10 million subscribers), Custom Creator Award (50 million subscribers), and Red Diamond Creator Award (100 million subscribers).

Meanwhile, Park Seo-joon is currently working on the upcoming movie Dream where he co-stars with singer-actress IU (Persona). The film targets to premiere in 2021.
