Park Bo-gum to enlist privately in navy today

Popular actor Park Bo-gum is set to enlist in the naval forces this afternoon, August 31.

After turning in his application and going through an interview at the Naval Headquarters in Gyeryong City on June 1, Park Bo-gum got notified of his acceptance on June 25. He will be joining 669 other officers in the Navy Basic Military Education Group, a division under the Naval Education and Training Command in Jinhae-gu, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province. He already received basic training for six weeks and is now assigned to continue his military service as a naval cultural activist in the said unit.

Park’s agency Blossom Entertainment stated, “Park Bo-gum is scheduled to enlist as a naval culture publicity soldier on Monday, August 31, 2020. At the time of admission, he is going to enter quietly and will not hold any prior ceremony like waving hands or bowing before the public.”

On why they made such measures, the label continued, “Since the COVID-19 pandemic has put us in desperate need of social distancing, Park Bo-gum insisted that he will strictly enter the naval forces privately. He wants to ensure the safety of everyone, so we arrived at this decision.”

Born in 1993, the 27-year-old actor made his small-screen acting debut in the OCN drama Hero (2012). He then went on to become a household name through his impeccable portrayals in dramas, including Reply 1988 (2015–2016), Love in the Moonlight (2016), and Encounter (2018–2019). Before his enlistment, Park reportedly finished shooting for his upcoming movies Seo Bok, where he will be starring alongside actor Gong Yoo, and Wonderland with Bae Suzy. In addition, although productions of tvN were temporarily halted, Park’s drama Record of Youth seems to be unaffected, and the actor was also already able to film his scenes for the entire series. However, he will not be publicly around to promote its premiere on September 7 with co-stars Park So-dam and Byun Woo-seok.

Park Bo-gum is scheduled to get discharged on April 30, 2022.
