Original (May 14, 2021): Ong Seong-wu in talks for new KakaoTV original drama about coffee

Singer and actor Ong Seong-wu might star in a new drama soon!

Following reports about Ong’s confirmed participation in the project, KakaoTV announced, “The KakaoTV original drama How About a Cup of Coffee? (literal title) is in the works. We are currently in the process of casting.” Meanwhile, a representative from Ong’s agency Fantagio told Korean media outlets, “Ong Seong-wu received an offer to appear in the series and is positively considering it.”

How About a Cup of Coffee? is anticipated to take viewers on a unique journey of learning about coffee and meeting characters whose lives revolve around it. Based on a manhwa (Korean comics) of the same name by Huh Young-man, the drama aims to commemorate Huh’s 40th anniversary as a comic artist.

Ong Seong-wu is being roped in to play Kang Go-bi, a newbie barista who sets foot into the world of coffee with nothing but sheer passion. He gets accepted as an employee at a café owned by Park Seok, head of the second-largest coffee company in the country. Under Park Seok’s teachings, Go-bi starts having memorable experiences as he blends in with incredible, coffee-driven people.

After making it to the top 5 on the popular survival reality show Produce 101 season 2, Ong Seong-wu debuted as a member of the program’s derivative boy group Wanna One in 2017. Already a well-rounded singer and dancer at that time, Ong later explored his acting capabilities by headlining the television drama At Eighteen in 2019 for which he won a total of three new-actor awards. If he accepts the proposal, the 25-year-old entertainer will be greeting everyone again since starring in JTBC’s More Than Friends (2020).

How About a Cup of Coffee? targets to begin filming in June and air in the second half of 2021.
