Netflix’s ‘Sweet & Sour’ gives early taste of realistic love story in official poster, trailer

The official promos for Netflix’s Korean original romance film Sweet & Sour are finally here!

Described as a modern and relatable love story, Sweet & Sour follows the changing of flavors in Jang Hyeok (Jang Ki-yong, The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos) and Jung Da-eun’s (Chae Soo-bin, Rosebud) relationship when a job opportunity suddenly turns them into a long-distance couple.

In the main poster for the movie, Jang Hyeok’s attractive new co-worker Han Bo-yeong (Krystal Jung, More Than Family) enters the frame and gets a little too close to him. Bo-yeong appears offended by Jang Hyeok’s efforts to avoid getting romantically linked with her, but the cute heart graphics surrounding them hint that he will eventually be unable to put on the “no-malice-purely-professional” act for long. This may also be the reason why Jung Da-eun looks not a bit pleased, even with her beau just standing right beside her. With the unique blend of shattered heart-shaped candies, macarons, and zesty citrus fruits, the image shows an urban love triangle that already tastes like a perfect disaster.

Meanwhile, the official trailer starts off by showing the adorable and passionate phase of Jang Hyeok and Da-eun’s relationship. Like an ominous message, however, the succeeding caption says, “Did you think it would stay sweet forever?” In the next scene, Jang Hyeok meets his fierce and assertive officemate Bo-yeong, who soon makes subtle moves on him. At first, he tries to reject her advances, but he only ends up mistakenly calling Da-eun by Bo-yeong’s name. And so begins the sour and rocky connection between the two lovers, confirmed by the question, “When is your love’s expiration date?” The video then closes with an epic reaction from Jang Hyeok when his senior at work tells him, “Life is hard? Then love is the answer.”

Helmed by producing director (PD) Lee Gae-byok of the film Cheer Up, Mr. Lee (2019), Sweet & Sour is slated for worldwide release this June 4 at 3 p.m. PHT/4 p.m. KST, only on Netflix.
