Netflix’s ‘Kingdom: Ashin of the North’ unveils new stills of Kim Shi-a

Netflix’s upcoming special episode Kingdom: Ashin of the North has dropped new stills featuring child star Kim Shi-a as the young titular character.

Kingdom: Ashin of the North is a spin-off of the streaming giant’s hit two-season series Kingdom. The 92-minute episode will unravel the story of Ashin, the mysterious woman who appeared at the end of Kingdom’s second season, and her connection to the beginning of the huge tragedy that consumed Joseon.

The freshly dropped images offer a glimpse at Ashin’s childhood. In the photos, she is seen looking unkempt and almost emotionless, hinting at her difficult ordeal at a young age. After losing her family, Ashin becomes determined to seek vengeance. Her harsh circumstances have also made her into a wandering person consumed by loneliness.

Previous promos for the drama teased that the young Ashin, to save a loved one, ends up discovering the resurrection plant, the very origin of what has turned the people of Joseon into man-eating monsters. Curiosity is therefore raised on how Kim Shi-a (Perfume) and A-list actress Jun Ji-hyun (The Legend of the Blue Sea), who portrays the adult Ashin, will showcase their acting prowess to tell a complex tale.

Kingdom: Ashin of the North is slated to greet viewers on July 23, exclusively on Netflix.
