KBS2’s upcoming romantic youth series Dear M has found its leads in Jaehyun, Park Hye-su, Kim Sae-ron, and Bae Hyun-sung.
Dear M will revolve around the campus-wide search for a mysterious person known as M, who drops buzzy posts on the online community page of Seoyeon University. As the entire school is thrown into a frenzy, the characters mentioned by M in the anonymous articles start seeing each other in a romantic light. It is a spin-off of the popular web series Love Playlist that aired on Naver TV and V Live in 2017.
Jaehyun is set to make his small-screen debut as the male protagonist Cha Min-ho, a gutsy second-year Computer Engineering student whose creative thinking often leads him to come up with brilliant ideas for mobile apps. Jaehyun is known as one of the 21 members of Neo Culture Technology (NCT), a boy group formed by SM Entertainment in 2016.
Acting alongside him is Park Hye-su, who previously played notable roles in JTBC’s Hello, My Twenties! (2016) and tvN’s My Shy Boss (2017). Park will breathe life into Ma Joo-ah, a cheerful second-year student taking up Business Administration. She has been Min-ho’s best friend for the past 12 years. The closest encounter that Joo-ah has had with romance is through other people’s relationships as she has never had a boyfriend before.
Meanwhile, Kim Sae-ron and Bae Hyun-sung signed up to reprise their roles from the fourth season of Love Playlist, where they played Economics student Seo Ji-min and Business Administration student Park Ha-neul, respectively. Ji-min is a member of the cheering squad, while Ha-neul is an honorary ambassador for Seoyeon University. The two will continue to make hearts flutter by showing their chemistry as a power couple. In addition, Ha-neul will be pursuing his dream of becoming a game developer in the drama.
Kim Sae-ron gained positive attention for her performances in JTBC’s Secret Healer (2016) and TV Chosun’s Leverage (2019). Most recently, she played the younger version of the female lead in SBS’s Nobody Knows (2020). Similarly, Bae Hyun-sung impressed viewers through his roles in MBC’s Extraordinary You (2019) and tvN’s Hospital Playlist (2020).
Dear M is penned by Lee Seul, screenwriter for Love Playlist. It will be co-helmed by directors Park Jin-woo of To. Jenny (2018) and Seo Joo-wan of Love Revolution (2020). The drama targets to air in the first half of 2021.
