Mother, tvN’s Wednesday-Thursday drama, has been selected to compete in the ‘official competition’ of the first-ever Cannes International Series Festival that will unfold from April 4 to 11, 2018.
The series, about a school teacher (played by Lee Bo-young) who kidnaps an abused child (Heo Yool) in order to protect her, will compete in the main competition of the festival against nine entries from around the world for the following awards: Best Music, Best Screenplay, Special Performance Prize, Best Performance, and Best Series.
The selections in the festival’s main competition called the CANNESERIES Official Competition is composed of “innovative series from around the world ranging from every genre, in every format, every distribution form and no selection quotas applied.” The nine entries that will compete against Mother includes Aqui en la Tierra (Mexico), Cacciatore-The Hunter (Italy), Felix (Spain), Killing Eve (USA), Miguel (Israel), State of Happiness (Norway), The Typist (Germany), Undercover (Belgium), and When Heroes Fly (Israel). All entries will be screened from April 7 to 11 in the Auditorium Lumière at the Palais des Festivals in France. Mother will be screened at 12 pm on April 9. Screenings will be open and free to all audiences.
The award ceremony will be held on the last day of the festival. The red carpet event preceding this ceremony will be attended by PD Kim Cheol-gyoo of Mother, screenwriter Jeong Seo-kyeong, Lee Bo-young, and Heo Yool.
Mother has two episode left which will be broadcast on March 14 and 15. The series has been considered a well-made and acclaimed drama that depicts the reality of child abuse in the society.
