Netflix has dropped the main trailer for tvN’s upcoming medical drama Hospital Playlist, which will stream exclusively on the popular streaming service.
The drama stars Jo Jung-suk, Yoo Yeon-seok, Jung Kyung-ho, Kim Dae-myung, and Jeon Mi-do as five doctors who became friends 20 years ago when they were still in medical school. At present, they now in the same hospital and the series explores their friendship as well as the daily struggles of a doctor dealing with life and death.
The trailer gives a glimpse into the daily lives of the five best friends at the hospital. They describe how they went from being classmates to close friends and how their personalities have changed over time. The narration is interspersed with clips of the five eating together and getting into hilarious fights as they remind each other how old they are. Jung Kyung-ho and Jo Jung-suk grab each other by their hair. Yoo Yeon-seok is seen bawling his eyes out and Jung calls him frustrating.
An exhausted-looking Jeon Mi-do remarks that it’s been a long day. A car pulls up in front of her, with the other four loudly beckoning her to join them. She runs to them with a grin, and the teaser ends with the five friends walking together happily.
tvN also dropped still cuts of Yoo Yeon-seok and Jo Jung-suk from the drama. Yoo plays Jung-won and can be seen in his doctor’s coat with a stethoscope around his neck, along with a cute plushie toy. Yoo’s stills display his charms as a smiley pediatric surgeon, but he also has an oversensitive personality that he only lets out in front of his friends.
Meanwhile, Jo Jung-suk plays Ik-joon, an easy-going, laidback doctor who manages to excel in both studies and work while partying hard and having fun. His stills show him with an amused, smug expression true to his personality. While it may seem like he takes his work lightly, another still shows him in scrubs with a solemn expression on his face, suggesting that he is capable of being serious when his work requires it.
Hospital Playlist is created by director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung who worked previously on Reply 1988, Reply 1994, and Reply 1997. It will air on tvN every Thursday at 9 p.m. KST beginning March 12 and be available for streaming on Netflix.
The friendship dynamics in Hospital Playlist‘s teasers are getting better every single time! This is giving me the group from Reply 1988, but a grown-up and funnier version. Jung Kyung-ho and Jo Jung-suk’s scenes look hilarious, and Yoo Yoon-seok’s over-the-top emotional acting is something I’ve never seen before. So far, Jung Kyung-ho and Yoo Yeon-seok are the funniest characters to me, but I’m equally excited to meet all five best friends. One thing is for certain: this show is shaping up to be yet another blockbuster hit like all of Shin Won-ho’s previous dramas (including Hospital Playbook).
