‘Lovestruck in the City’ extended by one more episode, to focus more on SHINee’s Minho

KakaoTV’s Lovestruck in the City has decided to extend its run with one more episode!

On February 4, an official from the entertainment industry told news agency, “Lovestruck in the City, which airs on Netflix and KakaoTV will end with 17 episodes, [adding] one more episode from the originally planned 16 episodes of the series.”

The story features romance amidst the busy city life, where young people, pressured by many factors in their lives, sometimes try to find or become a different version of themselves. It stars Ji Chang-wook (Backstreet Rookie) as the passionate architect Park Jae-won who meets a lively, eccentric woman during one of his vacation trips and eventually falls in love with her. The woman, who calls herself Yoon Seon-a, is a freelance marketer named Lee Eun-oh, played by Kim Ji-won (Arthdal Chronicles). Eun-oh has decided to go far away and be a different person for once in her life, thus her false identity when she meets Park Jae-won.

Other love stories in the series are of longtime couple Choi Kyung-joon and Suh Rin-yi, played by Kim Min-seok (Because This Is My First Life) and So Joo-yeon (A Love So Beautiful), respectively, and former lovers Kang Geon and Oh Sun-young, played by Ryu Kyung-soo (Itaewon Class) and Han Ji-eun (Kkondae Intern), respectively, whose different commitment issues keep them in conflict.

The 17th episode will focus more on supporting character Oh Dong-sik, played by SHINee’s Minho. Dong-sik is a local policeman who has been helping Jae-won find the thief who stole his camera, who turns out to be Eun-oh. The final episode will give the spotlight to Dong-sik, who has a different way of showing love.

An official from the drama shared to news outlet Newsen, “Along with the candid love stories of the six individuals, including Park Jae-won and Lee Eun-oh who are living fiercely through the present, the 17th episode will be a special final episode that will feature the budding romance of Oh Dong-sik, who left a strong impression with the arrest of the camera thief. Oh Dong-sik’s way of love, which is different from the others’, will deliver gift-like excitement and fun until the end. We ask for your love and support.”

Lovestruck in the City also marks Minho’s comeback on the small screen after being discharged from his mandatory military enlistment last November 15, 2020. The idol-turned-actor last starred in the melodrama The Most Beautiful Goodbye (2017) before his enlistment in 2019.

Lovestruck in the City is getting the viewers’ attention as the plot thickens and gets more complicated during the second half of its run. There is also curiosity on how the couples’ stories will end in the final episode.

KakaoTV’s original drama Lovestruck in the City is directed by Park Shin-woo, the director behind the romantic-comedy drama Hyde Jekyll, Me (2015) and the hit romance-healing drama It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020), named by The New York Times as one of the best international TV shows of 2020. The script is a collaborative work between screenwriters Jung Hyun-jung of Romance Is a Bonus Book (2019) and Jung Da-yeon.

The series will air its final episode on Tuesday, February 16 at 5 p.m. KST on KakaoTV, and 7 p.m. KST on Netflix.

It was Princess Lulu who first introduced her to Korean dramas but it was Yoon Ji-hoo from Boys Over Flowers who enticed her to stay in K-dramaland. She writes news and features for Kdramapal, which combines two of her most favorite things in the world—writing and K-dramas (look who's living the dream). The name Luna literally translates to "moon" and nothing special; she just likes writing at night.
