Lovestruck in the City Episode 3: Kim Ji-won plays with Ji Chang-wook’s feelings

What would you do if the person you have just spent a romantic night with begins acting too comfortably with another person right before your eyes? Is it okay to feel hurt or betrayed even if you have not set up a clear relationship status with them yet? This tricky yet fairly common relationship topic is what Lovestruck in the City has bravely taken on in its third episode called She Drove Me Crazy!

The morning after

Lovestruck in the City Episode 3 Ji Chang-wook

After spending the night together, Jae-won (Ji Chang-wook) wakes up with a bright smile the next morning only to find Seon-a (Kim Ji-won) now spending quality time with Gyeong-gu (Lee Sang-yoon) by the beach. The two even look like a longtime couple, if he didn’t know better. Right at that moment, though, he isn’t sure about what he does and doesn’t know anymore. The sight instantly catches him off guard and leaves him confused about the real score between him and Seon-a. As if that’s not mortifying enough, Seon-a goes on to say that she and Gyeong-gu are going out to see a movie together. At this point, it’s like Seon-a pulls at Jae-won’s heartstrings anytime she pleases, looking at how she leads him on with her flattering words while refusing to hold hands with him.

Are you it?

With that embarrassing situation now made known among the six interviewees, Kang Geon (Ryu Kyung-soo) tells Jae-won that perhaps Seon-a acted the way she did because she realized that he wasn’t “it” after sleeping with him. His shady remark seems to have hit one of Jae-won’s nerves as it pushed the latter to declare, maybe a little too defensively, that he’s really good in bed. In his fight to assert his vitality to everyone, he ends up getting mocked for trying too hard. Later, however, Suh Rin-yi (So Joo-yeon) decides to give him wise advice, saying, “If she treats it like a one-night stand, you do the same.” Her boyfriend, Kyung-joon (Kim Min-seok), immediately asks if she has experienced being in a one-night stand. Rin-yi says that she hasn’t but if she’s lying, her boyfriend is in for the shock of his life.

Unreciprocated feelings can make one look like a fool

While Jae-won makes it obvious that he wants some attention, Seon-a also keeps her act of ignoring him. She begins surrounding herself with other people, making it hard for him to approach her. Even so, upon hearing about Seon-a’s minor injury from when she went roller-skating with Gyeong-gu, Jae-won still thoughtfully searches inside his medical kit for a patch of pain reliever. That’s when it dawns on him that he is already at the edge of losing his sanity. With the pain from that memory carved deep in his heart, present-day Jae-won retracts his previous revelation of finding strange women attractive and proclaims he now likes normal and ordinary ones.

Are you toying with me?

Unable to make peace with Seon-a’s sudden change of behavior, Jae-won finally asks her what her deal is. Apparently going through a mood switch, Seon-a daringly asks, too, if she could come over to his trailer later. Flabbergasted by her boldness, he asks back, “Are you toying with me?” She responds, “Okay, I won’t come over.” The push-and-pull game here is of another level.

Catching a life-changing trip

Upon learning that Seon-a did not actually watch a movie with Gyeong-gu because she was saving it to watch with him, Jae-won comes up with a romantic idea to ask her out on a make-or-break trip. He tells her that if she does not show up at 6:00 p.m., he’ll take it as an “I don’t like you.” It was not easy for Seon-a to go, though, as her shift ends at 10 p.m. The time had come for their supposed date, but Seon-a continues to work while consciously checking the clock every now and again. Meanwhile, Jae-won grows more and more humiliated at each passing minute that he waits for someone who perhaps had no plan to go with him in the first place. When Seon-a finally decides to stop holding her feelings in, she hurries to see Jae-won at their meeting place, but he also seems to have already made up his mind on moving on with his life without her. Having found no trailer at Jae-won’s spot, Seon-a makes a shortcut through the bushes and trees in hopes to catch him on the road. She luckily comes running out just as when Jae-won was about to pass by. Our pleasantly bewildered driver then stops the car, goes out to talk to Seon-a, and without a word, receives a heart-melting embrace from her. Yup, she’s definitely one of the peculiar ones.

And just like that, everything falls back into place. Whether it’s for good or just for the time being is what we’ll have to uncover in the next episodes. Who’s as excited as us?!
