In episode 15 of Lovestruck in the City, Lee Eun-oh (Kim Ji-won) reveals to her childhood friends that she is Yoon Seon-a, the camera thief. She also gives Park Jae-won (Ji Chang-wook) the closure that he deserved as an initial step to finding the real her.

Titled What Do You Think Love Is?, this episode reveals what love’s different forms look like and their manifestations in the lives of ordinary city people through our six main characters.

Liking someone who likes you back is a miracle

Lovestruck in the City Episode 16 Ryu Kyung-soo

According to two hopeful teenage students, an ideal relationship is one where the two people involved like each other. Serial dater Oh Sun-young (Han Ji-eun) says such a relationship only happens when the entire universe strives to help you out. Even if it does, lovers Suh Rin-yi (So Joo-yeon) and Choi Kyung-joon (Kim Min-seok) prove that time tends to make people forget just how lucky they are in a long-term relationship, even if it is very loving. Kang Geon (Ryu Kyung-soo) believes in letting love find its own way to him after wandering. Meanwhile, police officer Oh Dong-shik (SHINee’s Minho) prefers spontaneity and believes that someone will come to him one day without him having to look for her.

Eun-oh is bothered by Jae-won’s gift

Lovestruck in the City Episode 16 Kim Ji-won

Because it came with no letter or note, Eun-oh believes that Jae-won placed the necklace inside her suitcase by accident. However, Jae-won maintains that the necklace is hers, and he intended to give it to Seon-a on the day they were supposed to meet at Cheonggyecheon and couldn’t throw it away. He says that if he didn’t leave a note, then it is up to Eun-oh to interpret it. Eun-oh calls Jae-won to ask him directly, but the latter vows to never pick up any of her calls again.

Jae-won and Eun-oh work together

Lovestruck in the City Episode 16 Kim Min-seok and Ji Chang-wook

The cultural center’s housewarming party finally rolls around and on behalf of their fathers’ construction firm, Jae-won and Kyung-joon serve as hosts of the event. Eun-oh shows up as the freelance marketer slash organizer from O3. When they first bump into each other, Jaewon’s eyes momentarily wander to check if Eun-oh is wearing the necklace. Thanks to their collaborative efforts, the party goes smoothly and earns compliments from Jaewon’s father, the chairman.

Rin-yi ends her relationship with Kyung-joon

Lovestruck in the City Episode 16 So Joo-yeon

Speaking of the chairman, Kyung-joon formally introduces him to Rin-yi at the party. Their conversation goes well until he asks what Rin-yi does, and she discovers that Kyung-joon lied to his uncle that she is preparing for graduate studies. Upon confronting him, she realizes that Kyung-joon does not approve of her current lifestyle where she’d rather juggle three part-time gigs than find a stable job. Rin-yi says that she doesn’t want to be tied up to one job for the rest of her life and that having more time for things that matter is her priority. What hurts her the most is that she believed Kyung-joon was fully supportive of her. She decides to break up with him because just like her own mother, he fails to accept her for who she is.

Eun-oh and Jae-won give love another chance

Lovestruck in the City Episode 16 Ji Chang-wook and Kim Ji-won

Eun-oh almost returns the necklace to Jae-won but hesitates before asking if he’d be okay with her not fully understanding herself yet and still having flaws that need fixing. Jae-won answers that he can get to know each part of her by dating her. He puts the necklace around her neck as they finally, finally kiss and give love a second chance.

This series reminds us that love is felt and expressed differently by every individuallike Sun-young’s decision to put romance on pause and focus on overcoming her grief, or Kang Geon letting Sun-young go while he patiently waits, or Rin-yi being content with her simple life. For Eun-oh, love takes the form of Jae-won’s constant understanding while she’s still out trying to discover her true identity. In other words, Lovestruck in the City teaches us that self-love and romantic love are both admirable forms of love. It has been one of the most refreshing romance dramas in recent times.
