SBS has announced that Lee Seung-gi and Suzy‘s new drama Vagabond will premiere at 10 p.m. Korean Standard Time on September 20 as a Friday-Saturday series.
Vagabond is a spy action melodrama that tells the story of Cha Dal-gun, played by Lee Seung-gi (A Korean Odyssey), an experienced stuntman who sets out to uncover a huge corruption following a suspicious plane crash that has killed his nephew. He crosses paths with Go Hae-ri, portrayed by Bae Suzy (While You Were Sleeping), a civil servant who ends up becoming a covert operative for the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
This project marks the second time Lee Seung-gi and Suzy are collaborating in a drama. The two actors headlined the fantasy historical series Gu Family Book in 2013.
SBS also released photos from the script reading of the drama’s cast which took place on June 2, 2018. The actors who attended the table read with Lee Seung-gi and Suzy include Shin Sung-rok, Moon Jung-hee, Baek Yoon-sik, Moon Sung-seun, Lee Kyung-young, Jang Hyuk-jin, Hwang Bo-ra, and Kim Min-jong. In the series, Shin Sung-rok (Perfume) plays a workaholic NIS team leader named Ki Tae-woong.
Vagabond was originally scheduled to premiere in December 2018 but it got pushed back to May this year. The broadcast faced another delay due to issues in filming schedule as well as a pending distribution agreement with Netflix.
The $22-million drama is directed by Yoo In-sik, the talent behind Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim (2016-2017), Mrs. Cop (2016), Incarnation of Money (2013), and You’re All Surrounded (2014), which was also headlined by Lee Seung-gi. Its story is penned by screenwriters Jang Young-chul and Jung Kyung-soon who both previously worked with director Yoo in Incarnation of Money, History Of The Salaryman (2012), and Giant (2010).
