Lee Se-young courted to headline ‘Gwanghae’

Actress Lee Se-young (Hwayugi) has been courted to star in the upcoming drama adaptation of the film Gwanghae: The Man Who Became King, which will now be titled The Queen’s Man, about a poor traveling clown who happens to bear an extraordinary resemblance to King Gwanghae of Joseon and who eventually ends up posing as the king in court when an assassination attempt weakens the king.

On August 22, Lee’s agency, Prain TPC, confirmed that she was considering with a favorable outlook to appear in the series as the female lead.

The film version of Gwanghae: The Man Who Became King stars Lee Byung-hun and Han Hyo-joo. It was a smash success upon its release in 2012. Actor Yeo Jin-goo (Reunited Worlds) is currently considering the role of Gwanghae while Lee Se-young has been offered the role of Gwanghae’s queen, Queen Yu.

The Queen’s Man will air in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot. It will follow 100 Days My Prince and Gyeryong Fairy Tale, which puts the premiere of the series sometime in December 2018 or January 2019.
