An exciting new romance drama is in the works!
Thirty-Nine is a “real” romance drama about the loves and lives of three close friends who are facing mid-life crisis at thirty-nine years old. The drama is in discussions to air on JTBC.
Actor Lee Moo-saeng’s agency Alien Company announced that the actor had been offered a role in Thirty-Nine. Lee is best known for playing a psychologist in The World of the Married (2020), the highest-rated drama in Korean cable television history.
Actor Yeon Woo-jin’s agency Jump Entertainment also announced that he had been offered a role in the drama. Yeon began his career as a model before moving to acting. He is best known for starring in Ojakgyo Family (2011–2012), My Shy Boss (2017), Queen for Seven Days (2017), and I Wanna Hear Your Song (2019).
Previously, the drama garnered attention when Son Ye-jin (Crash Landing on You) was offered the lead role. Later, Jeon Mi-do (Hospital Playlist) was revealed to be in talks for the show. While Son might play a dermatologist, Jeon has been offered the role of an acting teacher. Ahn So-hee (Missing: The Other Side) is also in discussions to appear.
With top actresses being considered, interest is high in whether Lee Moo-saeng and Yeon Woo-jin will join them.
Thirty-Nine will be penned by screenwriter Yoo Young-ah, who has written films like My Annoying Brother (2016), Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 (2019) and the drama Encounter (2018–2019). Producing director (PD) Kim Sang-ho, who worked on the JTBC romance drama Run On (2020–2021), will serve as the show’s director.
The drama is scheduled to start filming in the second half of the year, while the broadcast schedule is undecided as of the publication of this article.
