Along with a newly dropped teaser for Flower of Evil, the upcoming tvN thriller series, starring Lee Joon-gi (Lawless Lawyer) and Moon Chae-won (Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter), has also announced a one-week adjustment on its original July 22 premiere schedule.
Flower of Evil follows the story of Baek Hee-sung (Lee Joon-gi), a psychopath who has been secretly taking on a new identity to lead a normal life with his wife Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won), a homicide detective. On the outside, Hee-sung appears to be an ideal husband and father who works hard to provide for his family. However, when Ji-won gets assigned to a gruesome case, she starts picking up clues that all point to her husband’s dark, hidden past. The couple’s harmonious relationship starts to fall apart when Ji-won gets face-to-face with an unmasked Hee-sung.
The freshly released preview for the drama spans for 15 seconds and opens with the phrase, “The husband you’ve loved for 14 years…,” while Cha Ji-won says in the background, “How long did you think you could fool me?” The next scene seems to show the exact moment when she realized that Baek Hee-sung is a serial murderer disguised as her loving and dedicated husband. Her hands tremble in a mix of shock and denial as her confused thoughts wander off on the beautiful memories that he spent with her and their young daughter.
Then, the screen flashes a continuation of the first caption, saying, “…what if he is suspected of being a serial killer?” This time, however, Hee-sung’s chilling voice takes over and declares, “I will not stop [fooling them] until the very end.” As their family photograph enters the frame, he adds, “If I lose what I have now, my life would be hell anyway.” After a second of action, as Ji-won chases someone with her patrol car, the promo video ends with consecutive mirror shots of a tormented Ji-won and a wounded, cold-eyed Hee-sung.
Flower of Evil is helmed by director Kim Cheol-kyu of Confession (2019) and penned by screenwriter Yoo Jeong-hee of Naked Fireman (2017). The Wednesday-Thursday drama will now be released on July 29 at 10:50 p.m. KST.
