Lee Joon-gi, Moon Chae-won’s psychological conflict unveiled in new teasers for ‘Flower of Evil’

As Flower of Evil gets closer to its highly anticipated July premiere, the upcoming tvN thriller series has dropped another set of suspense-filled teasers featuring its lead cast Lee Joon-gi (Lawless Lawyer) and Moon Chae-won (Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter).

Flower of Evil tells the tale of Baek Hee-sung (Lee Joon-gi), a psychopath who has secretly taken on a new identity to lead a normal wedded life with his wife Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won), a homicide detective. On the outside, Hee-sung appears to be an ideal husband and father who works hard in his own metalworking studio in order to provide for his family. However, the couple’s harmonious relationship starts to fall apart when Ji-won gets assigned to a gruesome case and discovers that Hee-sung may not be the simple craftsman he claims he is.

One of the teasers spans for 30 seconds and highlights the double personality of Baek Hee-sung. It opens with the couple and their daughter Baek Eun-ha (Jung Seo-yeon) celebrating Hee-sung’s birthday together. Eun-ha shows her father a handwritten card that says, “I love you, Daddy. Happy Birthday,” which she decorated with a drawing of their happy family.

The sweet gesture causes Hee-sung to smile lovingly at his wife and child. Then, the scene starts taking on a darker mood, and his smile slowly melts into a cold and sinister expression. He is now staring at his face in the mirror like a lunatic as his voice says in the background, “I lied. Just a little.,” referring to how he has been keeping his own family clueless of his horrible past in the last 14 years.

In a similar but only half-long version, Cha Ji-won is shown peacefully sitting at a distance while she fondly smiles back at her laughing husband and daughter. The scene later shifts to depict a seemingly distressed side of Ji-won who asks in a shaking voice, “Who are you?,” as if imploring her husband to assure her that everything she has dug up about his past are all baseless and untrue.

Flower of Evil is helmed by director Kim Cheol-kyu of Confession (2019) and penned by screenwriter Yoo Jeong-hee of Naked Fireman (2017). The drama is slated to broadcast every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:50 p.m. KST and will also be available on other streaming sites.
