Lee Je-hoon receives lead role offer for new webtoon-based drama ‘Deluxe Taxi’

Multi-awarded actor Lee Je-hoon is being tapped to headline SBS’s upcoming crime-thriller series Deluxe Taxi (literal title).

An official from Lee’s agency Saram Entertainment revealed to Korean media outlets on October 13, “Lee Je-hoon has received a proposal for Deluxe Taxi, which he is positively reviewing.”

Deluxe Taxi will follow the story of an atypical taxi service in which drivers get revenge on behalf of their clients by picking up and driving for assigned human targets. It is adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name by the manhwa (South Korean comics) author-illustrator duo, Carlos and Lee Jae-jin. The original work was serialized on KTOON and achieved huge success, besting other entries on the platform in terms of rated reviews. Currently, it is under publishing contract with Naver and is available only in Korean.

Lee Je-hoon has been offered the role of Kim Do-ki, a taxi driver working for the Rainbow Taxi Company. Do-ki graduated from the Naval Academy and later became an Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) official. He was living a decent life until his mother fell victim to a brutal serial killer. In his desperate search for justice, he puts to use years of acquired skills from navy training to execute “revenge-call” job orders from their company’s clients.

After making his television debut with a support role in the drama Three Sisters (2010), Lee was cast to play main characters in various series, including Fashion King (2012), Secret Door (2014), and Signal (2016). He then went on to portray the male protagonists in Tomorrow With You (2017) and Where Stars Land (2018). In addition, Lee Je-hoon is slated to appear in Netflix’s upcoming family-themed series Move to Heaven (TBA).

Deluxe Taxi is set to be helmed by director Park Joon-woo of Doctor Detective (2019) and penned for the small screen by first-time drama screenwriter Oh Sang-ho, whose previous works include the hit films Fabricated City (2017) and Codename: Jackal (2012). It targets to air in the second half of 2020.
