The premiere of romance drama Youth of May is fast approaching, and KBS2 has dropped new posters before the big day.
Starring Sweet Home (2020) co-stars Lee Do-hyun and Go Min-si, Youth of May follows the romance of two people in the background of the Gwangju Uprising that took place in May of 1980. Lee plays Hwang Hee-tae, a medical student who falls for a nurse named Kim Myung-hee, played by Go. They are joined by Lee Sang-yi (Once Again) and Keum Sae-rok (Joseon Exorcist), who play the siblings Lee Soo-chan and Lee Soo-ryeon.
One of the released posters show the four characters, whose fates get entangled with one another as they each try to forge their own path in life. Although they all stand in the same frame, they are staring at different directions while lost in deep thought, indicating the struggles that all of them are trying to overcome individually.
Meanwhile, the characters’ strength and aspirations are put more into focus in their individual posters. In his image, Hee-tae is gazing at something faraway, indicating his sadness and longing. Even though he was at the top of his class at Seoul National University’s medical school, a tragic incident changes his life forever, and he ends up going back to his hometown. The text on his poster reads, “War with prejudice.”
Meanwhile, Myung-hee, clothed in a nurse’s uniform and cap, stares directly into the camera, and her determined eyes indicate her unwavering spirit and strong personality. Even with all the hardships in her life, she is still determined to chase after her dreams, thus, the phrase on her poster reads, “White-robed angel,” which was changed into “White-robed soldier.”
In his poster, Soo-chan radiates a powerful vibe in his smart business suit and neatly combed hair. After coming home from his studies in France, Soo-chan begins working as a businessman at a trading company. His poster reads, “Noblesse oblige,” which indicates the heavy burden and obligations he carries as the eldest child of a wealthy family.
Meanwhile, his sister Soo-ryeon plays an active part in student movements. Understanding her privilege as a wealthy heiress, Soo-ryeon tries to give back to the society by fighting in the frontlines of various student movements, which explains her feelings of uneasiness and concern in her poster. On her image are the words that read, “Law department Jeanne d’Arc.”
Youth of May will premiere on KBS2 this coming May 3 at 9:30 p.m. KST.
