Lee Da-hee‘s agency Huayi Brothers Korea revealed on January 29 that the actress had received a casting offer for the new sci-fi drama LUCA. Previously, Kim Rae-won‘s agency HB Entertainment also confirmed that the actor had been offered a lead role in the same drama. Both actors are still reviewing the project.
Lee Da-hee was most recently seen in Search: WWW. If she accepts, LUCA will mark her first-ever lead role in a prime-time Korean drama.
Meanwhile, if Kim Rae-won takes the role, he will be returning to the small screen two years after his last drama Black Knight: The Man Who Guards Me (2016-2017). Ji Chang-wook was in talks before to play the male lead role.
LUCA is an abbreviation that stands for Last Universal Common Ancestor. The drama is inspired by Darwin’s “Theory of Evolution” which first brought up the concept of a universal common ancestor of all present-day humans. It will tell the story of an elite scientist’s personal strife that leads him to create a new kind of living organism to speed up the process of human evolution.
LUCA will be directed by Kim Hong-sun, who has worked on thrillers like The Guest (2018), Black (2017) and Voice (2017). Chun Sung-il, who wrote Your Honor (2018) and The Package (2017), will pen the script.
The drama is in talks to air on tvN or OCN in the second half of the year.
