OCN’s Island is eyeing actress Lee Da-hee as its new female lead!
Lee’s agency Santa Claus Entertainment said, “Da-hee has received an offer to star in Island, and she is positively reviewing it,” addressing earlier news about the star’s confirmed casting in the upcoming exorcism drama.
Set against the scenic background of Jeju Island, Island centers on three protagonists: an exiled heiress who is targeted by demons, an emotionless demon hunter, and an exorcist priest. It is based on a popular webtoon of the same name by manhwa (Korean term for comics) author Youn In-wan and illustrator Yang Kyung-il.
Lee Da-hee is being roped in to play Won Mi-ho, the only daughter of the man who owns Daehan Group. Her arrogant and selfish attitude causes her to make a big mistake that ultimately angers her father into banishing her to Jeju Island. There, she begins working as a high school ethics teacher, clueless of the fact that the island is a place where demons roam free. Initially, famous actress Seo Yea-ji (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay) was set to portray the role, but she later decided to withdraw from the project after getting involved in a series of controversies.
In 2013, Lee Da-hee had her breakout role in the courtroom drama I Can Hear Your Voice. Having rendered an excellent performance, Lee immediately landed her first lead role in a television series in Big Man (2014). Now recognized as one of South Korea’s most popular lead actresses, the 36-year-old artist previously showcased her acting prowess in the dramas The Beauty Inside (2018), Search: WWW (2019), and L.U.C.A.: The Beginning (2021). She will be joining actor Kim Nam-gil (The Fiery Priest), and potentially, True Beauty star Cha Eun-woo, should she finally choose to sign up for Island.
Island is helmed by director Bae Jong and screenwriter Jang Yoon-mi. Created as a seasonal drama, the original broadcast schedule for season one is expected to get pushed back by the casting delay, but reports say that early production stages will already crank up this summer.
