tvN has announced the lineup for its upcoming fantasy drama Immortality (literal title). The main cast will be comprised of Lee Jin-wook, Kwon Na-ra, Lee Joon, and Gong Seung-yeon. Jung Jin-young (My Unfamiliar Family), Park Myung-shin (Beyond Evil), and UP10TION’s Kim Woo-seok will round up the cast as supporting characters.
Immortality will revolve around two main characters—a woman who has repeated the cycle of death and reincarnation for 600 years and remembers her past lives and a man who lives as the mythical creature bulgasal, feeding off the blood of humans and cursed into immortality. The past and present lives of these characters will intertwine as they deal with their karma.
Lee Jin-wook will play the bulgasal named Dan Hwal, who used to be a human 600 years ago. He turned into a monster in the Joseon dynasty while fulfilling a mission as the military commander. The actor is best known for starring in In Need of Romance 2012 (2012), Nine: 9 Times Time Travel (2013), the second and third seasons of Voice (2018, 2019), and the Netflix show Sweet Home (2020).
Kwon Na-ra is set to play Min Sang-woo, a woman who used to be a bulgalsal but managed to reincarnate as a human. After the murder of her mother and twin sister, she began living in hiding with her younger sister. The appearance of the bulgasal Dan Hwal changes her life. Kwon Na-ra debuted as a member of the girl group Hello Venus before getting into acting with supporting roles in Suspicious Partner (2017) and My Mister (2018). She bagged her first lead role in Doctor Prisoner (2019) before starring in the commercial hits Itaewon Class (2020) and Royal Secret Agent (2020–2021).
Lee Joon will play Ok Eul-tae, who is an influential figure with immense wealth and good looks. He uses his money to control politicians, businesses, and the media. In truth, he is another bulgasal who has been hiding his identity for centuries. Lee Joon debuted as a member of MBLAQ in 2009 before breaking into the acting scene with the movie Rough Play (2013). He is best known for starring in Mr. Baek (2014), Heard It Through the Grapevine (2015), and My Father Is Strange (2017).
Gong Seung-yeon will play Dal Sol, the ex-wife of Dan Hwal and the daughter of an influential family who ends up getting married because of her father. She possesses abilities that others cannot make sense of. Gong’s most popular works include The Roots of Throne (2015–2016), My Shy Boss (2017), Are You Human? (2018), and Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2019).
Jang Young-woo, who has co-directed hits like Mister Sunshine (2018) and Sweet Home (2020), will be directing the show, while the script has been penned by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, who wrote the occult drama The Guest (2018). Immortality is scheduled to premiere in 2022.
