Young actress Kim Yoo-jung (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) received an offer to play one of the leading roles in School 2017, the latest installment of the youth-oriented KBS drama franchise School. This is according to a statement released on May 19 by her agency SidusHQ saying that she is currently considering the offer.
Kim Yoo-jung recently won the Most Popular Actress award at the ceremony of the prestigious Baeksang Arts Awards this year. She is currently reviewing the casting offer for the newest season of the School series, which is known for giving the spotlight to big star potentials. Its previous seasons introduced several early Hallyu stars to the industry including Jang Hyuk, Choi Kang-hee, Kim Rae-woon, Ha Ji-won, Jo In-sung, and Im Soo-jung. In the 2013 season, it made popular the then rookie actors Lee Jong-suk and Kim Woo-bin. Shortly after, Lee Jong-suk landed the lead male role in I Hear Your Voice while Kim Woo-bin became one of the main cast of The Heirs. Nam Joo-hyuk of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, Yook Seung-jae of Goblin, and Kim So-hyun of Ruler: Master of the Mask also established their acting careers in the drama franchise, through Who Are You: School 2015.
School 2017‘s final casting and storyline have yet to be released but just like its previous installments, it will delve into important issues and problems faced by teenagers in high school. The new season is confirmed to be directed by PD Park Jin-seok who directed the short drama Naked Fireman and written by Im Soo-mi of the Let’s Eat series. The writer is well-known for comedic works such as the TV series Rude Miss Young-ae and old sitcoms like Three Men, Three Women and Nonstop 4 but is nonetheless expected to craft the drama School 2017 wonderfully.
KBS announced in March that it will produce School 2017 and broadcast the drama after Fight for My Way finishes its run in July.
