Actresses Kim Yong-ji and Kim Hee-jung are the newest additions to the impressive lineup of cast of Tale of the Nine Tailed, tvN’s upcoming fantasy drama.
Tale of the Nine Tailed tells the story of a gumiho or mythical nine-tailed fox named Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook, Strangers from Hell) who has just settled in the city. Able to transform into human form, he sets out to clean the mess left behind by those who create havoc in the human world. He is soon hunted down by the fearless producing director Nam Ji-ah (Jo Bo-ah, Forest) whose current TV show features urban myths. However, Lee Yeon’s stepbrother Lee Rang (Kim Bum, Mrs. Cop 2) enters the picture. He is reputed as the most dangerous of all gumihos living among ordinary people. Despite being half-human himself, he harbors a deep-seated contempt for them. He occasionally unleashes his seductive prowess upon them and promises to grant their wishes, only to trick them into paying a hefty price for their earthly desires.
Kim Yong-ji signed up for the role of Yuri, a character who is expected to play an important part in Lee Yeon’s and Lee Rang’s lives. The actress made her small-screen debut in the award-winning tvN series Mr. Sunshine (2018). Just recently, she became even more popular for her dual roles in SBS’s The King: Eternal Monarch (2020), where she acted closely with stars Kim Go-eun and Woo Do-hwan.
Meanwhile, Kim Hee-jung will take on the role of Nam Ji-ah’s mother who gets to uncover the secrets of the strange events in the drama. Since she entered the acting industry in 1991, Kim Hee-jung has already picked up a lot of experiences from each of her previous projects, the latest of which are MBC’s A Pledge to God (2018) and SBS’s The Secret Life of My Secretary (2019). She also made a brief appearance in Mystic Pop-up Bar (2020) as Wol-ju’s (Hwang Jung-eum) mother.
Tale of the Nine Tailed will be directed by PD Kang Shin-hyo of The Heirs (2013) and Children of a Lesser God (2018) while screenwriter Han Woo-ri has taken charge of penning the script. It is scheduled to air in the second half of the year.
