Jiang Chen and Chen Xiaoxi shippers! The Chinese hit series A Love So Beautiful, starring Hu Yitian and Shen Yue, is finally getting a Korean remake, and the production team is already courting potential actors to play the main characters.
On July 2, it was reported that Kim Yo-han and So Joo-yeon are in talks for the lead roles, and both of their agencies have confirmed the casting offers. So Joo-yeon’s agency commented, “It is true she received a casting offer, and she is positively considering the proposal.” Kim Yo-han’s agency also responded to the reports and shared, “He received the script, but his appearance [in the drama] has not been confirmed yet.”
After the potential cast lineup was announced, fans have expressed their anticipation and excitement to see Kim Yo-han back in the industry after the disbandment of his K-pop group X1. He was previously confirmed to star in School 2020 of the School drama franchise. Unfortunately, it is still unsure if the drama will push through after KBS announced its decision not to air the drama, citing controversy with one of its cast members.
The innocent and pure young love story narrated in A Love So Beautiful captured the hearts of many, making the 2017 Chinese web series highly popular, both locally and internationally, during its airing. It follows cheerful but not-so-smart Chen Xiaoxi, who has the longest crush on her childhood friend and next-door neighbor Jiang Chen, who is a campus celebrity and deemed as a genius at their school. He is distant, cold, and does not socialize much—the complete opposite of Chen Xiaoxi. But he is drawn towards her, and their high school romance blossoms towards adulthood.
If they accept the offer, Kim Yo-han will play Jiang Chen, and So Joo-yeon will portray Chen Xiaoxi. To date, there are no reports yet on the production team’s decision on the name change for the characters in the Korean remake.
If cast, this will be Kim’s first ever lead role and his TV drama debut. Meanwhile, So previously starred in the second season of Dr. Romantic (2019) together with Han Suk-kyu, Lee Sung-kyung, Kim Min-jae, and Ahn Hyo-seop. Unlike Kim, she has already appeared in a few series in the past such as My Healing Love (2018–2019) and even landed a main role in I Hate Going to Work (2019).
The Korean remake of A Love So Beautiful will be broadcast by Kakao M, with a twenty-minute run per episode. Other cast members and production schedule are still awaiting confirmation, but the remake announcement is already making buzz online, especially for the fans of the original series.
