Kim Hye-yoon in talks to star in new drama ‘Snowdrop’ by ‘SKY Castle’ director-screenwriter duo

Up-and-coming actress Kim Hye-yoon is being courted to reunite with the makers of the chart-topping series SKY Castle in JTBC’s new drama Snowdrop (tentative title), as announced by her label, SidusHQ.

Kim made her small-screen debut in the KBS2 TV Novel Samsaengi (2013). She then gained positive recognition in her performance in the OCN series Bad Guys (2014) but decided to focus on her studies afterward. She appeared in various cameos throughout her university years, and when she graduated, Kim began auditioning for bigger parts.

She ultimately landed her breakthrough role in the satirical drama SKY Castle (2018–2019) where she played the ambitious and unfriendly but ladylike high school girl Kang Ye-seo. Her remarkable performance won her the recognition of Best New Actress at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. The series has since marked history as one of the highest-rated Korean cable dramas of all time, with an average rating of 12.5%. (It currently occupies the fourth spot in KDramaPal’s updated list of top cable dramas.)

The actress subsequently skyrocketed to stardom and earned her first lead role in the webtoon-based school fantasy series Extraordinary You (2019) where she also received high praise. If Kim accepts the current offer, she will be working again with SKY Castle director Jo Hyun-tak, also hailed as Best Director at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards, and screenwriter Yoo Hyun-mi.

Details on Kim Hye-yoon’s character as well as other information about the new drama are still being kept under wraps. Meanwhile, Kim is set to hit the big screen in the upcoming movie The Girl Riding a Bulldozer (literal title) where she will be acting alongside Super Junior’s Yesung.
