As it draws closer to its August 28 premiere, SBS’s Alice shares a first look at Kim Hee-sun’s awesome transformation with the initial character stills for the upcoming human sci-fi melodrama.
Alice follows the story of two people who were separated by death but are able to meet again by breaking the boundaries of space and time. Park Jin-gyum (Joo Won, My Sassy Girl), a fearless detective who does not have the ability to convey emotions, discovers the existence of time travelers from the future who come to the present through a device called “Alice.” In the course of finding out more about the phenomenon, Jin-gyum has a fateful reunion with Yoon Tae-yi (Kim Hee-sun, Room No. 9), a woman who claims that she has never met him before but looks exactly like his mother, who passed away a long time ago. Fueled by the same intentions, the two of them set out on a quest to unravel the secrets behind time traveling.
The freshly dropped stills for the drama feature Yoon Tae-yi, a genius physicist who mastered calculus at the age of six and entered the Department of Physics at Hankook University by age 15. On top of her unbelievable intelligence, Tae-yi was also bestowed with a one-of-a-kind beauty, overflowing enthusiasm, and admirable assertiveness that she uses to make a change in the world through science. All three photos reveal a sneak peek of the protagonist as she busies herself inside her laboratory. Wearing her spectacles and dressed in a white lab coat emblazoned with her name, Tae-yi deeply focuses on her work on the computer monitor. The intellectual atmosphere is highlighted even more by the bizarre-looking machine behind her and some scribbled formulas on the board.
Kim Hee-sun is set to make her comeback on the SBS network, eight years after her appearance in the 2012 drama Faith. On her next portrayal, the production team of the upcoming series remarked, “Yoon Tae-yi is a confident female scientist, and up to this day, Kim Hee-sun has made a great effort not only with how she could look like Tae-yi but also with how she could completely depict her identity through acting. The actress has made sure that she is worthy of her role as a scientist from the very first day of filming. We have all witnessed her dedication to the craft and to her new characters, so we would like to ask for your continued interest and anticipation for Kim Hee-sun’s performance in Alice.”
Alice is helmed by Baek Soo-chan of Into the World Again (2017) and is co-penned by screenwriters Kim Kyu-won, Kang Cheol-kyu, and Kim Ga-young. Produced by Studio S, the drama is scheduled to air every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. KST, replacing Backstreet Rookie.
