Jung Woo-sung confirmed to replace Bae Sung-woo in ongoing SBS drama ‘Delayed Justice’

Award-winning actor Jung Woo-sung has been announced to take over Bae Sung-woo’s starring role in the legal-themed SBS series Delayed Justice.

On December 21, a representative from the ongoing Saturday-Sunday drama revealed, “After a series of discussions about recasting one of the protagonists, Jung Woo-sung has now confirmed his appearance and is set to join the filming this week.” They added, “Delayed Justice is scheduled to resume broadcasting in early January of 2021 to make time for reorganization.”

Delayed Justice follows two principled men in their journey to defend falsely accused judicial offenders. Renowned actor Kwon Sang-woo (Queen of Mystery 2) has been portraying the character Park Tae-yong, a brilliant and passionate lawyer who has a soft spot for the underprivileged, while Jung Woo-sung will play the role of Park Sam-soo, a kind-hearted and honest reporter.

Jung Woo-sung gained initial popularity for his performance alongside famous actress Son Ye-jin (Crash Landing on You) in the Korean film classic A Moment to Remember (2004). On top of his active engagement in the film industry, he also made notable appearances in the television series Athena: Goddess of War (2010–2011) and Padam Padam (2011–2012). His participation in Delayed Justice will mark the 47-year-old actor’s much-awaited comeback to the small screen after eight years.

Earlier, breaking news about former lead actor Bae Sung-woo’s involvement in a drunk driving incident shocked the viewers of Delayed Justice. It was later confirmed that Bae was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) last month at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The incident pushed many viewers to demand that he be removed from the ongoing drama, which was eventually decided for by its production company and broadcasting network.

The production team immediately proceeded to the recasting process and initially sent an offer to actor Lee Jung-jae (Chief of Staff). Due to conflicting schedules, however, Lee later decided to take a pass on the role. Bae Sung-woo, Jung Woo-sung, and Lee all belong to the management agency Artist Company.

Delayed Justice is penned by screenwriter Park Sang-kyu and helmed by director Kwak Jung-hwan, who previously worked together in Chief of Staff. Set for the 10 p.m. timeslot (KST), the drama’s specific broadcast schedule next year remains to be decided.
