Jung So-min, Kim Ji-seok, Jung Gun-joo offered to star in new JTBC drama ‘Monthly House’

JTBC announced on June 2 that they have offered Jung So-min, Kim Ji-seok, and Jung Gun-joo roles in their newest romance series Monthly House.

A JTBC representative shared, “Regarding the new drama ‘Monthly House,’ it’s true that we’ve [offered] Kim Ji-seok, Jung Gun-joo, and Jung So-min to star in the drama. However, the detailed broadcasting schedule and whether or not they are going to star in the drama haven’t been decided yet.”

The new romance series will follow the story of an editor of a home magazine. Jung So-min has been offered the role of Na Young-won, a woman who has been a magazine editor for 10 years and has been living alone in a rented home for the same length of time. She is most comfortable whenever she’s at home and believes it is where she can be her true self. But after meeting her new homeowner and Monthly House magazine CEO, whom she does not get along with, Na Young-won begins searching for a house of her own and later develops an interest in the real estate world.

Meanwhile, Kim Ji-seok is in talks to play Yoo Ja-sung, the CEO of two companies, a real estate investment company and Monthly House, the home magazine company. After self-studying real estate while doing part-time jobs, he goes from rags to riches, becoming an investment expert and owning properties worth tens of billions of won in real estate. His life turns upside down when he meets Na Young-won, with whom he begins a sudden romance.

Jung Gun-joo, concurrently, has been offered the role of camping fanatic and professional photographer Shin Kyum. He lives and believes in the saying, “You only live once,” and goes by his work-life balance. Instead of taking over their family business, he chooses to be a photographer. He becomes Na Young-won’s neighbor and convenience store partner and gets entangled in her romance.

At present, the three actors are starring in ongoing TV series. Jung So-min currently has the lead role in the KBS2 drama Soul Mechanic, opposite Shin Ha-kyun. She was cast in her first lead role in the 2010 rom-com Mischievous Kiss, which raised her popularity.

Meanwhile, Kim Ji-seok is headlining in tvN’s My Unfamiliar Family. He made his entertainment debut in 2001 as a rapper of the Eurodance boyband LEO and his acting debut in 2004. He has since appeared in several dramas, including the historical dramas The Slave Hunters (2010) and Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (2017), and most recently, the romantic comedy thriller When the Camellia Blooms (2019).

Rising actor Jung Gun-joo, who has several web-dramas under his belt, has also been setting out to do TV broadcasts. He is best known for his role in Extraordinary You in 2019 and is currently starring in tvN’s Oh My Baby.

Monthly House will be helmed by director Lee Chang-min of Welcome to Waikiki Seasons 1 and 2 (2018, 2019) and penned by screenwriter Myung Soo-hyun of A Poem a Day (2018).

Luna

It was Princess Lulu who first introduced her to Korean dramas but it was Yoon Ji-hoo from Boys Over Flowers who enticed her to stay in K-dramaland. She writes news and features for Kdramapal, which combines two of her most favorite things in the world—writing and K-dramas (look who's living the dream). The name Luna literally translates to "moon" and nothing special; she just likes writing at night.
